I seem to recall a guy going for it in 2 making 8 and being pilloried. Jean Van De Velde. The stats cant read lies and green complexes. I trust the pros to know what they can and cannot do more than us msg. board pundits.

Not at all a comparable situation. Not only would a 7 NOT have won the tournament for Holmes as it would have for JVDV, the latter had some freaky bad luck.

Stanley laid up and made an 8 on this very same hole a few years ago. Lost the tournament.

I checked with Pete Carroll and he thinks that JB absolutely should have gone for it. Because if you make the shot and win it looks great, and really what could go wrong.

If he was uncomfortable with the lie and the distance, he made the right choice. No need to stand over a possible tournament deciding shot with negative thoughts in his head.
