Today the 2015 Valspar Championship starts, played in Palm Harbor, Florida . Winner of the Honda Classic, Padraig Harrington, is in the field after not being part of the WGC - Cadillac Championship. Also Reed, Spieth, Scott, Donald (former winner) and Stenson are there. John Senden won last year, one shot ahead of Kevin Na.

Yup, just started his round.

Btw, probably a stupid question, but how is it possible that the previous tournaments in Florida there was 6 hours time difference with me, but now all of a sudden it's 5 hours different? Is the timing of day light savings different then ours? (last Sunday of March).

edit: nevermind. Google is my friend.

Harrington at +4 trough to the turn, last place. Not a good start in his first tournament after winning The Honda Classic.

Love this course. This tournament is gonna move up the ranks quickly. Pretty good field this year. I like a guy like Stenson to win or even a bounce back from Ryan Moore.

Ryan Moore faded from this position last week at Doral, but Innisbrook is a shotmaker's course. Some proven winners are lurking a few shots back; it will be interesting to see how he can close tomorrow. He needs to be watching over his shoulder just to make low UNLV alum. (Derek Ernst is still the biggest fluke winner on tour for as far back as I can remember. If he can bump his rate of top-25 finishes above once every two years, he may outgrow that title.)

Spent an afternoon this past Tuesday watching practice rounds - course looked more plush/green than I remembered over the last several years of attending the tourney.

Donaldson w/ Westwood

Cink

Rafa Cabera Bello w/ Leadbeatter  ------guy appears as fit or fitter than Villegas.

Watney

Hopefully the winner today........

We almost lost the tournament - had to scramble to find a sponsor (Valspar) who signed up for 4 yrs (til 2018, I believe).......course gets a lot of props, but doesn't get the best turnout from the pros (due to Arnies' tourney and Doral).......gotta say the spectator turnout isn't up to PGA standards compared to other events, but seems to be improving, imo - Valspar has improved the event w/ concert, better stands for viewing, etc.......

What a battle going on right now!! Anyone's tournament to win. Could root for any of these guys (probably even Reed at this point - maybe...). Selfishly pulling slightly more for Ryan Moore on the hopes that a win will spark a True Linkswear discount special so I can pick up a few new pairs from the 2015 line. ;-)

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
