I played in a fun foursome today. All of us around the same age. Other 3 players a little better then me. One guy in particular was amazingly long.. i have always heard internet sories about 300yd drives etc....but now i have seen it in person. 3 shots in particular stuck in my mind. He hit a drive, uphill, into the wind on a straight par 4 308. "Layed up" with a 3 wood 290....and my personal favorite...9 iron to 10ft from 167. Really incredible...the best player probably averaged 270-280...was in pretty much every fairway and probably only missed a couple gir.... Big thing to me...i need more loft on my driver. I am giving up a fair amount of carry potential. I already knew this but it was really on display today. These guys hit it a mile in the air....and deep....

I've only played with one person who had similar skills as you've described. It was really a lot of fun to play next to someone that good. I didn't check any of his distances with GPS, but he hit a green with a pitching wedge from over 150.

The guy wasn't just long, he was long and accurate from wedge through driver. I know a high handicapper who is long, but he isn't very consistent.

My good friend who is a junior like me and being looked at by decent D1 schools is very similar to what you are talking about. Average 290-310 off the tee but we were playing a course about 2 months ago before a tournament and it was a little elevated tee box but into the wind and there was a bunker 365 and he carried the drive about 330 and it rolled right in. The first few months I played with him he always told me he had a little extra in him on every single club and I never believed him until he put a 162 yard pitching wedge a good 10-15 feet from the hole on a par 3.

One of the guys I golf with is a monster, longest hitter I've ever seen in person.  He doesn't miss often, but when he does he misses BIG.  As in "that one's in the next county" big.  It's impressive to watch how far he hits the ball, and even more impressive when he hits one of his big misses.  You can't help but be kinda awed as you watch a 300+ yard hook disappear from sight OVER the houses lining the fairway.  Needless to say, it's much less entertaining to him than it is to the rest of us.

Yes, envy rears its ugly head.  I also remain astounded by those guys who drive the ball onto the green 327 yards away, downhill though. I've got it too.  The envy.

It was certainly impressive. Envy never really played a part in it for me. I worry about being the best player i can be. And driving it over 300 probably isnt in the cards for me. Awe..yeah that was there. Watching someone over power a 6600 yd course is interesting. He wasnt the best player though because he wasnt as good with his irons and his short game was subpar in comparison. The other kid, while not as long was still pretty long, but he had total control of the ball at all times. He had to finiah right around even for the day...tons of gir....

I play with a guy I work with  who hits the ball farther than anyone that I normally play with. He probably only hit 5 fairways all day but the ones he did. It was always a pitching wedge to the green on par 4's and a 5 iron to the green on the par 5's. He was a pretty good baseball player in school and about 15 years younger than me. He has no short game at all and when he misses of the tee it can be 2 fairways over. At the end of the day I'm still beating him by 7 strokes. Never the less it's still impressive to see someone bomb it in the fairway 320 or hitting wedges 150.
