5 wood or 3 hybrid ?

I had taken my 3 hybrid out of my bag as I also have a 5 wood, both are TM Burner 2.0. Last night I tried the 3 hybrid and seems it goes about the same distance, 210-220 yds, both the clubs are 18 degree. I usually hit the 5 wood a little straighter but as of late I have been hooking both the hybrids and woods. What I am wondering is, once I get the intermittent hook thing straightened out, would it be more advantageous to carry either one ?  Any recommendations ?

Assuming when your hook is gone, that it is gone from both clubs, and you hit them both the same distance, then I think it would be advantageous to keep the one you hit the best and feel most confident in when standing over the ball. If it's the same with both clubs, then carry whichever one you want and keep the other in the closet in case circumstances change!

I prefer a hybrid over a 5 wood but it's an individual type of thing. Just gotta figure out what works best for your game and the course you normally play. 5 wood will probably launch higher and the hybrid will work better from the rough.

If they are both 18 degree, won't they both launch similar ? That's where I'm thinking the hybrid may be a little more versatile. I am a little straighter with the 5w but have taken it out and put the 3h in it's place to try and get more comfortable with it.  I am also shocked at how different other brands of clubs behave, I recently hit some Ping woods and hybrids and was surprised at how much straighter I hit them. I've already spent quite a bit on golf this year so won't be running out to replace right now.

Design is different. The center of gravity is lower and deeper than a hybrid. More to launch than just loft.

If I hit a 3H and 5W the same distance (I don't) and with the same accuracy, I'd keep the 3H in the bag and ditch the 5W.  I carry both and IMO the hybrid is a more versatile club.  I can hit the hybrid off lies I wouldn't think of hitting a FW off of.  I can hit my 5W off the fairway, out of short rough or (flat) fairway bunkers, but go to the hybrid for taller rough and uneven/irregular lies (such as desert waste areas).  I could easily hit the hybrid off those lies where I use the FW, but not vice-versa.

Used the 3h yesterday and today and also put some time in on the range with it. getting it straightened out. Hit the apron of a hidden green from 216 over trees with it and hit it just short of another today from about 220, was just a little short and left. I think it goes just a few yards less than my 5w. I think it will be a more versatile club than the 5w if I can get more confident with it. I am finding the hybrid launches higher than the 5w too.

My brother was just buying some new clubs and needed to decide between 3H and 5W (he wanted Nike Covert 2.0 clubs, which are all adjustable). I convinced him to go with the 3H. My set has a 5W and I love it, but I don't feel comfortable using it to attack par 5s in two. It's great for a few dog leg par 4 tee shots, but I don't feel good hitting it off of the ground. I would also go with a 3H if I were buying today, but the 5W is a great club. It just depends on where you think you'll get more benefit from it. As it is now, I tend to hit my 4h into par 5s, but I just can't reach them by about 30-40 yards. my 5W could get there, but I miss left and right with it a bit more, and off the ground, I'm worried about a disastrous shot where I hit it too fat or thin. With the hybrid, I know more or less what I'm gonna get out of that shot.

I own both a 7W (Tour Edge XRail) and a 3H (Adams V4). On a windless day, they both carry about the same distance. So, I use them seasonally.

The 7W launches higher, and gets the ball out of medium rough better than the 3H. So, I carry the 7W during warm weather.

But, from November to March, when the winds are higher and the rough lighter, I carry the 3H.
