Hello everyone,

I'm looking for some information on some putters.  I bought the Taylormade Spider Blade Slant putter recently.  Really like it.  It is the short slant model.  I purchased this one because it has the same offset as my previous putter.  However, the lie is different at 70 deg, vs. my old one which was more like 74.  I don't mind that, but it does move the ball further away in my address.  Which brings up my question.

The other model has an L-Neck, so the hosel joins the shaft further.  I am wondering if this would change the distance between my feet and the club head.  Both putters are 38 inches, with a 70 deg lie.  If this hosel shape would bring the clubhead in half an inch I might like that better as it gives me a better view over the ball.  I'm just not sure if they accomodate for the hosel design in some way and the alignment would be the same or not.

does this make sense?

The hosel style won't change the measurements of the putter. Not saying it won't make a difference in your perception but it's not actually changing the lie angle or where the club head is.

    • No, you don't, that's one of the main points. Handle lower = face points left, open face = face points right. All to very small degrees since… It's pretty square, and the path into the ball is pretty square, which is why you get less sidespin and less of the ball jumping right when it hits the green.

    • Relatively speaking - I suspect the lower handle keeps clubface closure rate much lower through impact. Once you establish that, I think you can square up a bit more for slightly lower flight and more spin. You still have to cut across the ball a bit like any soft shot. Also, not sure how modern is defined in OP but there's Gary Player bunker shot videos doing this. I recommend watching on mute if you care to brave it.
