Hello I am new to the game of golf and have only been playing for a year to two years. Like all beginners I have struggled to make consistent contact with the ball. I have recently started experimenting with different clubs and brands. I recently bought a Nike Sasquatch Sumo 2 Driver and 4 hybrid and took them to the range to hit. Almost immediately I noticed how much easier these clubs were to hit then the ones I currently own. I was not aware until a friend of mine pointed out one day that the two clubs I bought were womens clubs!?

I am a pretty short guy 5'5 and am wondering if the shorter club lenghs are benefitting me because they are womans? I make much better contact with them then the same clubs I have.

Any help would be appreciated I would like to enjoy the game more.

Thanks Hector

Hey hector. No worries. I have picked up and hit womens clubs by mistake at golf galaxy. Likely they are very much less stiff of a shaft than your mens clubs. So they kick over at a different piont and feel totally different. The club doesnt care about genitalia, it only knows seing speed and angle. I think thats why you are liking them, but i could be wrong.

Welcome to the forum hector. Shorter length will likely help you if it fits your swing. I would recommend you spend some time and get a fitting. The length and shaft stiffness can be determined from that. Usually a driver and six iron will be used. To keep the cost down, they can cut down your current shafts to get the right length. I did this when I first started playing. I didn't need shorter shafts, but did end up going with lighter shafts.

Yep, shorter club will definitely help, especially in the beginning.    I"m a little taller than you, but when I started I had to cut 2" off my driver so I could at least make consistent contact with the ball.    Shorter clubs especially for someone of your stature will make the game a whole lot easier.   Nothing wrong with playing ladies clubs when you're learning ... if you get into it, maybe in a year or so, you can get fitted at a golf store & get a set that fits you once your swing is better developed.

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
