On a 390 yard whole, that was all down hill, with the wind behind me I was about 60 yards out. So that makes it about 330 yards.

I doubt I can do that now. That was when all I cared about was hitting my drives far. I didn't care where they went or what happened after I hit the drive, just as long as I out drove everyone else. I also used a really funky setup to compensate for the massive slice I would have other wise had. It worked fine for a while, but when it broke I couldn't get it back, because I was basically doing things wrong to offset other things I was doing wrong.

I saw a thread like this on some forum and thought it brought up some good replies.

Had my longest drive yesterday.

Funny story, our 2-some was behind a 5-some for about 3 holes and they kept saying "If we slow you down we will let you play through". But they never waved us through while waiting to make our approach shots.

Finally they let us tee up ahead of them on hole 13 at Cedar Crest in Dallas.

Well i had been spraying my driver all day and had no confidence in it, but was so fed up with these guys that i just tee-ed it up and let an all-out rip.

Well it was dry conditions, down wind and down hill, so what do you know, my longest drive ever! Hehe!

Titleist NXT extreme. Hole plays 377 from the blues. Ball stopped on a sprinkler head that marked 67 yards! 310 yards!

Let me hear your story of the longest you remember!

I think there's a thread already here about this, but anyways...

#6 at Willows, short par 5 of 490. Titleist NXT Tour. Drove it up the right side along the cart path and cleared a hill about 250 away. When it was going down the other side it must have hit the cart path or something, because when I got down there it was about ten yards in front of the 150 marker, about 350 yards away from the tee.

Second shot (7 iron) flew the green and went into the mush. Bogey from there.

About 15 years ago when I was just starting the game and using my Dad's Ping Eye golf set I hit a 360 yard drive with his persimmon Ping Eye driver straight down the fairway on a par 5. I had 140 in at which time I struck an 8 iron 10 feet passed the hole and made the putt for my first ever eagle. This hole was an anomaly as my swing was wild and my shot shape usually a huge banana slice into the other fairway. My swing speed must have been over 120 mph at the time as I was just young and much more flexible than I am today.

Needless to say, 360 yards with a persimmon wood and old tech ball? I still 'brag' about this today.

345 yds, however, I don't play that driver (a Zero Tolerance Crown Jewel custom made driver with a Penley stiff shaft) anymore since I would kill it about 1 out of 10 times and the other 9 it seemed that I was scrambling out of the rough - that got old.

I've only been playing about 3 months. This past Saturday I hit a drive that measured 284 according to the GPS in the cart. I'm very proud of that.

280, I pretty much still suck but on this one ripped it off the tee with a slight push to the right on a right dogleg. It ended up in the short rough about 40 yards further than where we thought it landed and it took me forever to find it. I dropped the 2nd shot about 10ft from the pin and proceeded to two putt :(

380? 340? 360?

What is this, a humor thread? LOL

Most people overestimate the length of their drives by at least 10%, and the longer the drives get, so go the tales... So if a guy says to you, "I popped one 310 today," you can pretty much rest assured it was 260-270.

My personal best is 315, well downhill, 1,200 feet above sea level (yes, it matters) and probably 85-90+ degrees out.

360 no joke.

I average right around 280-300.

I smoked a ball dead center to a fairway that right around 300 slopes way down hill. I must have carried the ball 310, because right at the ridge of the hill, there is a cart path that bisects the fairway. I see the ball take about a 60 foot hop straight up, and WAY down the hill. 360 almost on the nose. Too bad our par 4's are terribly long because I still had a knockdown PW into the green.

At the 18th at Star Pass TPC in Tucson, Arizona (a blind, downhill, 430 yard par 4) in about 1992 my drive hit the cartpath and my ball ended up 30" from the hole while the group in front of me was putting. Fortunately one of them was looking back and saw my drive hit the cartpath on the first second and third bounces before popping up and landing on the green. That group stayed to watch me putt in the eagle.

I have a new TM R7 460 Draw that I am hitting about as well as any driver I have ever hit; I'm 59 and in poor shape but getting 270 and straight consistently. I also have an TM R7 460 Superquad that I trying to tune; thusfar, its has been much harder to hit well than the R7 Draw, which seems to have been custom made for me.

345 yds at Carolina Shores this past August on a Par 4. The ball rolled quite far before coming to rest 10 yds left of the center of the green. I can consistantly hit around 300 yds when I'm hitting the ball well. I've driven several par 4 greens, but I've never gotten an eagle out of it!

Mine was 380, down hill, down wind. I actually did not hit it that well and hit it a little high, but that actually helped due to the wind. I was 160 out on a Par 5 after that one.

haha i did the same but i think i may have nicked a cart path; still 140 out on a par 5

Longest measured drive in normal conditions on a flat hole was 350 on a short par 5, my partner had 150 left in and stuffed it in a green side bunker lol

    • Same here. Seems quite a few of my fundamentals had strayed and Erik had to get me back on track. It was kind of surprising how bad I had gotten off.
    • I would like to point out I was not complaining about hot summers;  rather, I enjoy them.  It's the coming cold cold winter I'm about to face that worries me.
    • From late 2022 until a few months ago, I barely played (maybe two dozen rounds, total, and only four rounds in 2024).  I had my first lesson in ages (Skillest, with Erik) and grip was part of it -- mine really did get into a bad spot, and I had to (and still have to) practice the new one.  It still feels odd, but that's a good thing when adjusting (otherwise I'm probably doing the previous).   I'm going back into the office for the first time since then and I'm tempted to take a small section of pipe, keep it in a desk drawer, and periodically take it out to practice my grip.
    • Great episode on GAPs. I agree 100%, this needs to be consistent. It is something you have complete control over to a high level of repeatability and precision. It is such low hanging fruit as well.  My own tendencies.  Grip - Can get too strong. I tend to not get much grip with my left pinky, and the grip can feel like it slips more into the palm. I mess around with grip size and tap wraps. I wonder if I need to get away from a big taper.  Stance - Use to be too far right. I noticed, for the first time ever, I was aiming too far left on the course last week. It was like 5-10 yards left of the target, not 20-30 yards right. Overcorrection. 🤣 It is getting better.  Posture - Way better now that I stretch and work on mobility. I could tell years ago that if I tried to keep my knees less bent, get more on the balls of my feet, I felt a stretch in my calves and hamstrings. Now, I don't, and it helps. I think people might avoid that stretch feeling because it might feel unnatural. I used to be head up as well, looking too much down the bridge of my nose. I still can catch myself doing that, especially on shorter irons. I think I have average ankle mobility. I do have to use elevated heels when I squat at the gym, or I tend to fall over forward.  I agree, if you are not practicing this then you can become lax. For about the entire first half of this season, I was just waltzing up to the ball without aiming. I still catch myself being lazing. I have to step back and actually aim. I think adding this into your practice sessions is easy. Just do it before ever rep at the range. Just make it a conscious effort on the course.  For the tee shot, the only time you can kind of use an alignment aid (other divot or maybe something is lying on the ground). I tend to use that to help me aim. I try to imagine a straight line that I align my body to.
