Bill-How about rather than pimping your buddy you actually participate in the forum here. How is this not just spam?

"The expert golfer has maximum time to make minimal compensations. The poorer player has minimal time to make maximum compensations." - And no, I'm not Mac. Please do not PM me about it. I just think he is a crazy MFer and we could all use a little more crazy sometimes.

To me watching a video and trying to apply the principals to yourself can be very dangerous, I'm starting to realize that golf swings are a lot like fingerprints, each person's is different and what works for them will more than likely not work for some one else. You really should get personalized lessons if you want to improve, don't just watch a bunch of youtube videos and randomly do things and think you are going to get better. I used to do that, and it got me no-where for 3 years, until I signed up for evolvr, now I am starting to see some real improvement I've dropped around 10 strokes from where I was when I started. Yea my scores went up when I first started with them because of making changes, but now they are back down and lower then ever.

That seems like a pretty drastic statement. I have never had a lesson in my life and my handicap isn't bad for someone that has never taken a lesson or had the money to play a lot of golf. All I did was read magazines when I was younger and now you tube videos as I've gotten older. For example, the swing paths article that the pros here out together just cured my snap hook that had been killing me this season.

I think there is a difference between knowing how something works and videos like this, where he is giving him a drill to do based on his swing. Fixing the result when it can be caused by any number of things without knowing what is causing the result is going to cause more issues down the road.

I used to watch videos on Youtube, watch Breed, Hall, and others on the Golf Channel and more times than not it screwed my swing up more.  Not saying some of the tips given are not good, just that there are so many ways to fix issues and everyone has their own way of teaching that it can all get overwhelming and creates too many thoughts in your head.  I finally learned to just listen to what my pro was teaching me and if I started having some issues I would just go get a quick lesson to fix.

I couldn't agree more, I even have started avoiding the instruction forum, because it makes me want to work on other things then my priority piece!

    • Day 35, June 8. Before leaving for work this morning (yes, I'm posting this quite late relative to the practice), I spent 15 minutes practicing at home, into a net.  This time, it was primarily 9-iron (full swings), with some UW (full and half) and a few 6-iron.
    • Day 73: just some mirror work today. Working on feels for being open and getting the front shoulder down.
    • I'm liking this. Finally getting down hands in front of my trail leg pocket consistently at A6 with much better clubhead position (relatively not as tipped out). I can really pressure the shaft through impact with good face control  from this position and stay in balance. Won my first one v one march 5&4 against a 4 hcp who routinely drives it 35-40 yards past me in the men's club match play . Frustrated him with some solid iron play and air tight putting.
    • Day 279 6-8  Worked on low point control skills work tonight. will be doing this for a few weeks. Tonight was just trying figure out how to get low point forward.  No ball.
