Help!

I am a digger.  That is my swing.  That is how I play.

So, I am sure its related to my swing being steep but I am awful out of the fairway bunkers.  Its either terribly fat or such a thin shot it will hit the smallest of lips.

Any advice on how to improve this other than don't hit it in the bunker?

Choke up on the club and club up one club. You want to hit ball first. Dig your feet in and take a more controlled backswing. I hover the club at the middle of the ball too. Even if you are a digger, this will get the ball out cleanly.

I am opposite as I am more of a picker.  I am really good out of greenside bunkers but terrible out of fairways because I tend to lift up trying to get the ball in the air quicker.  Have been working hard on not lifting my body and have been having more success lately.

I'm a pretty good fairway bunker player. The key is to take a club or two longer if you can and make a smaller swing. You need to pick it. You'll have to practice a sweeping shot if you're a digger. The most important thing is to keep your lower body quiet and your head still. If you're hitting fat and thin, I suspect you're swaying. Keeping your head still applies to any shot.
