I've been Playing Golf for: Just started back from a 20 year layoff

My current handicap index or average score is:

My typical ball flight is: high shot with irons mostly left and a straight slice with driver

The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: fat shots

Hello everyone im just getting back into the game after a 20 year layoff. Some of the problems im having is hitting a lot of fat shots with my irons and to me it seems like im hitting the ball way to high if i dont hit them fat . Im also hitting a lot of iron shots to the left. With the driver im starting the ball straight with a slice on it.

Both shots was with 8iron

Good video for you to check out.

You need to bend the left shoulder and left hip down longer on the backswing. You turn your shoulders too flat and that causes the head to move up and away from the ball, also moves to the right from the face on view.

Want to see the shoulders turn about 90 degrees to the amount you're bent over at address. This makes solid contact much easier to achieve.

Slumped is fine, you're just bent over a little too much.

Check this out.

Hello Mike can you take a look at this impact position and tell me if im flippin through the ball.Still having trouble moving my head and shoulders to flat.

Definitely flipping. Just wanted to post here to grab the video frame for you and say that I'm struggling with the same thing right now, so keep at it. : )

Yes as @amoline pointed out you're still flipping. Keeping working on the steady head.

Make practice backswing with a stick or a wall/beam to the side of your head. Or get someone to hold a club next to your head. Will help you with the feels to turn the shoulders on a steeper pitch.

Thanks guys. So what kind of drills for the flippin

Perhaps this one:

Hard to flip if your weight is preset forward like this, I would think.

Don't worry about the flipping for now, just focus on one piece at a time. Get that head movement sorted out and then see what the next priority piece is. It's going to be very hard to fix anything if you're working on too many things at the same time.

Right and the flipping will be reduced as Key #1 improves. Priority right now is the head movement to help your low point control.

Hey mike can you take a look at the head movement in this video and tell what you think.

Thanks William

Head is fine, just watch that right leg. It's straightening too much, too soon.

The right leg releases some flex but it doesn't come close to locking out.
