Second straight beautiful day and I could not get away from the office. I am going stir crazy. Saturday and Sunday are going to be cold and rainy. Lovely combination. I am getting worried that my season may be over. Last year we had 3" of snow on Thanksgiving. Ugh.

I got out for the first time since The Newport Cup (a month ago) because the forecast called for temperatures in the mid-to-high 50s with no wind. I played a course close to home and shot 83. The course was in awful condition as usual. It often feels like playing in a pasture, but the price is low. And I get to hit the ball around, so I'm happy. At least the greens are solid though.

Anyway, I shot a 42-41 though, and I was happy with it.

I played what will likely be my last round a few days ago. I birdied one of the toughest par fours on my course with a drive to the left-center of the fairway, a 6-iron to 18 feet below the pin, and a perfect putt.

Then I birdied the 17th hole again, and finished my year out with a good drive on the 18th, a 9-iron to the green, and a two-putt, tap-in par. A really solid way to end the year.

Shot a very odd 84 today. No 3 putts and 9 pars will generally make me happy. However the fact that I managed to be 14 over while making 9 pars doesn't make me giddy. I guess we just find ways to play to our handicap.

Shot a 90 at the Reading County Club in Reading, PA today. At the in-laws for the holiday and the girls went shopping. So I brought out the clubs. Very tight, small greens, and fun course to play with lots of elevated greens and elevation changes. A course where a little bit of local knowledge would have saved me some strokes...

I really think people want to hit a nice little draw not a hook.

I had not played since the second week of October. When the oppertunity presented itself to play Sunday morning I jumped at it. We decided to meet at the course at 9:00 AM since they are no longer taking tee times this season. We got there at 8:45 and the gates were closed. By 8:55 I decided to call the course and see what the hours were. They are opening during the week at 9:00 and Weekends at 10:00. Why in the hell would you open earlier durring the week then on the weekends? if someone can play at 9:00 on a weekday, they can play at 10:00. I ended up having to skip what is likely to be my last round of the year. We don't get too many more 55 degree days until Spring. Besides, my basketball league starts on Sunday and there is no chance of me going out for a morning nine and then comming home to changes clothes for a 1:00 game.

Was able to clear my schedule today and skip out for 18. Played River's Bend Golf Course in Chester, VA today for the first time. Shot a personal best 83 on a par 71. I made the turn at 39 and foolishly thought about breaking 80. Back nine I played more like myself. I was just throwing darts with my irons and I hit 9 GIR which is very high for me. Not sure how long the weather will allow me to keep playing, but I'm playing some of my best golf of the year.

Read Bob Rotella's Putting Out of Your Mind over Tgiving break, maybe that has something to do with it. I was certainly more comfortable standing over the ball today on the greens.

Today I played the Doral Blue Monster (i'm a member) shot a decent 78, im happy with it. On 18, (The Blue Monster Hole) I bombed a drive right down the middle only to hit my second shot of 165 yards into the water because of the false front and undulating green!!! ARGH... Ultimately made a double bogey to shoot a 78, generally a pretty decent round for how I was striking my irons.

www.talegagolfclub.com
Tee'd off at 7:10am 71 degrees zero wind, wind picked up around hole 6 10-15mph and made an already tough course play VERY long.
Hit 3 balls OB. Almost had that score in the high 70's

Hope everyone hit them well today.

    • I watched this video of his last night: I don't hate him like @boogielicious apparently does and thought this was a pretty good premise so I gave it a shot.  Not the worst thing in the world and I especially liked the premise.  He's got a lot of air to fill by himself, which he isn't great at, but in doing so, you get some decent insight into how his brain works while setting up shots/putts.
    • So driver is longer than all the other clubs and gear effect plays a bigger part with driver than anything else. If you're hitting it out of the heel it could slice even if you have the face square. Could try some foot spray or impact tape and check that. Other thing is if the shaft is different in how it flexes or how flexible it is it could be affecting your swing somewhat. Driver also has the straightest face, so while with a 4 iron it might fade, with driver that can wind up being a slice with the same face angle at impact.
    • Yeah I have taken lessons. I also got clubs fitted in like 2011 ish. My driver and wedges aren't from that set though.    1. I'm just not sure why I can't seem to get the face back to square. I don't have that problem with my other clubs. Sure the longer ones a miss tends to be a slice, but I don't need to make a grip change to only sometimes hit the ball reasonably straight.   2. I think there is a bit of inaccuracy there. The number I have in my head is like 195 for my 5 iron. 4 iron also definitely has more variance than all my other irons, but 210ish is about right for non mishits.
    • Only if they call you Poindexter!
    • For multiple reasons, including "why should anyone else care to continue to search for someone else's ball?" No thanks.
