What'd You Shoot Today?

Recommended Posts

68 today for 9 holes. 35.8/126 course.

Would have been quite a bit higher but our league rules state that you must pick up when you reach 2x par.

Needless to say I am not happy with my game right now....

89 Yesterday on a short course playing 6450 yds.

Average day I guess.  Felt like a REALLY good round until i looked at the scorecard.

Was a bit sad when i added up my score, i was sure i was closer to 80..   few missed puts will kill you.

Played Arroyo in Vegas for the first time yesterday. 77 (71.9/124). Looks okay in black and white, but..... If I hadn't made three bombs and everything inside of 10', it could've been 87......I hit it so poorly. I don't know about other people, but sometimes when I play a course for the first time, something takes me out of my mental groove. Maybe I just try too hard.

In The Bag: - Patience - Persistence - Perseverance - Platitudes

Best 9 hole round of my life, allowed by the best putting of my life. One of my best friends, Steve, was in town, and only had time to play 9 tonight.

1. Started off with an eagle 3 with a 6 footer. Great drive, nailed a mid iron to the green 6 feet from the pin . My buddy made a bogey 6, getting on in 4.

2. Hit a beautiful 3H tee shot to 50 yards from the hole. Hit my second shot to the back of the green, for about a 35 footer. 2 Putted for a great par. He bogeyed.

3. Drove in to 90 yards from the front of the green. 52* in to about 8 feet, which I again made for birdie, sitting at 3 under. He got his first par.

4. Uphill par 3, I judged the wind wrong, and drilled it into the front side fringe. Got up and down with a 4 footer for par. He got his par, on in regulation with a tough 2 putt.

5. 502 yard par 5. Driver-3H in. My hybrid went hard with a fairly low launch, caught a hard bounce, flew 3/4 of the green, rolled the restof the way fast over the hill behind the green. 52* wedge coming back, almost on the pin, 2 foot birdie. Almost shit myself. Steve rode the bogey train to its second stop for an ugly double with a 3 putt.

6. 420 yard up hill/down hill par 4. 2 in, 2 putted for Par. He bogey'd.

7. 115 yard Gap wedge to a dead stop 3 inches from its pitch mark (wet, soft greens, we had 4 days of torrential downpour), 6 feet from the hole. Birdie. He made a nice birdie as well, with a long side-hill crossways putt which was perfect on his part. One of the nicest putts I have ever seen.

8. 2 in for a 2 putt par. Good line on a long first putt, left it 3 feet short and made the easy par. He bogeyd

9. Drove the ravine to put the ball on the top of the hill, with a 60 yard shot in. I took out my 60* for the first time all day, and stuck it to 9 feet, making a beutiful right to left downhill putt fleaving it 2 inches short, for a sad, sad par.. Steve got another par.

31 on a par 36. He shot a 41. I am amazingly pumped about the round, though im still upset I left the putt on 9 short, which would have given me an absolutely amazing birdie to cap off an amazing round. But it was not to be. Steve was shocked. He hadnt played with me since he got me into the game 3 years ago, when he made me feel like a hack with his bogeys and pars. Now I beat him by ten strokes on our home course (he played there for years before I got into golf). Unfortunately, I had nowhere near enough daylight to play 18, which made me sad. But im extremely happy with myself for making every shot a smart and well struck shot, aside from maybe having hit a 4 iron instead of 3 hybrid, but then maybe i'd have got no bounce and left it short, giving me a tough chip instead of the easy quarter swing I had. But im asking for an eagle when I made birdie, so I should shut up.

Just that damn putt on 9. 2 more inches and I had the birdie and the 30, but it just wasn't to be. I should not complain. 31 over 9, on a Par71, 129 slope, is a great score./ But I cant help but wish I had finished it. I will tomorrow, before we play again. We are playing 18 then. What could have been.

Cobra Baffler T-Rail 3 & 4 Hybrids

Edel Forged 48, 52, 56, 60, and 64* wedges (different wedges for different courses)

Seemore Si-4 Black Nickel Putter

89 (had to post 86 due to ESC) 47 front 42 back

rate 73.7 slope 139 yards 6874

Just an absolute frustrating day, wound up destroying my round on back to back holes took a quad and then a triple ****. The only decent thing I can say about it is at least it happened early versus later cause I actually played fairly decent otherwise 10/14 fairways 9 gir didn't putt all that well either though and I think the drinking the night before didn't help a whole lot (not 22 anymore lol). I think I may go play some easier courses next week just to get my confidence back a little, my home course is relentless at times.

75 +3. Putted really well. Got the cap from 6.2 to 5.6! Getting there!

Shot an 85 from the blues. Looks like my goals will need to be set a little higher for this season.

There was an 146 yard par 3. My tee shot was 5 feet from the cup.

And I ****ing 3 putted it.

Now, I'm going to drink away my sorrows of those flashback nightmares. Leave me alone.

2013 Goal:

72 course par.. After going only to the range for tthe past two months practicing posture grip stance arms etc.. i finally went out today.. Shot a 96. I felt good. Definitely know where my issues are.. my driving was phenomenal..I've never hit that well even at the range. Many compliments that helped my game. I know i could have done better..which makes me eager.

Shot an 87. Had 4 penalty strokes and choked on a few approach shots. I can deal with penalties, but setting yourself up with a great drive to just turn right around a flub your 90 yd and in approach shots to the green is absolutely unacceptable. I know what I need to practice on .....

Shot the worst 9 in a long long time. 53 on a par 35. I was on my way to an average round with a mix of par, bogey, and a double and then on my last hole which is usually one of my best for a pretty par, my rock steady slice that I've always worked with went the way of the dodo bird. I put 5 balls into the trees (not in the edge, as in GONE and no chance of even looking for them) and I should have stopped at the second but I went all tin cup on it and kept putting another ball on the tee.

The good news, some minor tweak I have done over time fixed my slice. The bad news, it cost me a lot of penalty strokes, 5 good balls, and now I have to learn how to aim when a ball goes straight off the driver and wonder when the slice will come back.

Oh well, try again tomorrow morning.

I know I've had a few "tin cup" holes, A few weeks ago I gave a water hazard 5 balls of the tee and carded a 13 on that hole. My question is, when playing a round, at what point do you quit putting balls in the water and go drop one?

Broke 100 for the first time today with a 94!

Everything was working better than normal.  I knew my hard practice would show dividends on the score card eventually!

    • Day 206 (24 Nov 24)  - An easy session with the 54deg wedge and hard foam balls / one simple goal - distance control thru backswing length while not decelerating.  Had a playing partner comment they noticed me decelerating on a couple short wedge shots in last round.  Hit from distances from close to 40yds down to 20.
    • Musgrove Mill hole #15 was converted to a par 3 after Hurricane Helene. Today, I had 145 from the tee which is a perfect 9-iron for me. I aimed just right of the hole and pulled it a few feet. Clanked off the stick down into the hole and ricocheted out of the hole 13’ away. Drained the putt for a birdie after repairing the hole which was damaged . Not sure if it would have counted as a HIO, but I was pretty excited!
    • Day 55 - 2024-11-24 Did five levels of Operation 36 on GSPro (different courses). 🙂 Was -4 from 200 yards (32) intentionally laying up on each hole (i.e. not hitting a 5I or something). Shot… 22, 24, 26 from 25, 50, and 100 yards. I forget my 150-yard score, but obviously it was < 36. Putting was odd… (and I did it with the wedge or a 7I or whatever was in my hand).
