Just out of mile curiosity and to confirm that this is a club I do not need, I read the entire thread. I can see the value for some however, especially out of bunkers, or those who find themselves using a lob.  For those who have a decent short game and can approach with several techniques depending on the situation, you are probably better off with the standard types of wedges.

I will stick with my old Tom Watson/Adams wedge set. Then again, my bag looks like something from a bygone era. Only "modern" clubs are hybrids and even 1 or 2 of those have been around for awhile. Yes, I understand that the new clubs would probably allow me to do better, but I also simply "like" what I have. Persimmon and older Forged.

Actually the first version which didn't have the bounce on the club was not approved by the USGA. They came out with a second version of the club which has the bounce listed on the club and is approved by the USGA. http://www.usga.org/InfoClubsDB/ResultDisplay.aspx?val=Xe1

if you have the version 2 XE1 wedge you are fine.

I have been using the 59 and 65 degree wedges for over  2 years now. Absolutely brilliant. I use them for anything under 80 metres to the green. Absolutely transformed my short game.

I must admit, it took a little getting used to at first. HAVE to slow down the swing so the club face gets a chance to interact with the ball.

Am considering trying the c3i next. But the xe1's are absolute game changers. Don't let anyone tell you any different.

I admit I use them more for the 80m and less shots than while in the bunkers, but that is because the sand in the bunkers at my club is non existent.

Happy golfing!
