Hi there, i am considering upgrading my irons as the set i have are fairly old these days x12's) and since i broke a 5 iron recently rather than replace it i thought i would just get another set. i have got down from 10 to 6 this year and am looking fo a set that will hopefully allow me to still get down a shot or two next year. i have considered sticking with callaway and maybe trying the x18 or the x20 but not sure if there is any others that i should consider. im not bothered about buying a new set either a second hand set will do as i dont have too much money available (prob looking to sepond between £100 and £200 at a push. if anyone cn recommend any clubs they think wopuld be good to move on from the x12 or any feedback ou have to help make me the tight purchase is greatly appreciated. the equpitment siude of things has never been my strong point so any help appreciated. thanks

Check out Callaway Preowned. If you don't care about them being in Like New condition, you can get clubs in various states of use (always still very good) for cheap. You can get last model year (X2 Hot) in average condition for $250 American (like 170 GBP). You're a fairly low handicap, so you might consider the Tour or Pro versions of any iron set. The X2 Hot Pro will run you like $350 through there. I'm sure you can find other deals. But if you're looking to stay in the Callaway family, the X2 Hot and XR ranges are the way to go. Going back farther than a year or two, you run into diminishing returns on how much you save by getting older irons. Going a year or two back seems like a sweet spot performance / money - wise.

I would consider the original X Hot and X Hot Pro irons. I have hit irons from both the X.Hot and X2.Hot families, and the originals flew better overall and had better feel than version 2 (X2.Hots).

    • Ok, I'm trying to find a feel to hit a consistent ball flight (irons).  My current predicament.  1. I try to do the arms down stuff better, with the club feeling like it is way behind me more. It's just a cluster of results. Most of the time, I can't get any speed on the swing. If I get my arms down faster, I just throw them out.  2. I focus all my attention on turning better. Pushing off with my left leg and getting my right side through better. On the DTL view, this doesn't produce anywhere close where the hands and club should be. The result is usually ball first contact, lower ball flight, more centered contact.  At this point, I am going with option 2. Stop thinking about what the hands do. Just make a shorter backswing, keep it wide, turn through. Somehow, the club head finds the ball. My focus is so much on just making sure I turn, it's like, "Oh, that contact was better.... Oh, that bell flight looks playable." If not, I will just be practicing my entire summer.
    • Nope, they spent too much money. They are in over 28 million on the football roster and related NIL compensation at this point. Boosters associated with any Texas college football team has HUGE sway. The AD is between a rock and a hard place. They put a lot of money into Sorsby, at the chance of winning a NC this year. If you move on, you basically wasted a lot.  This is why Ohio State wants 3 QB's they feel can start. That is why the backups the past 5 years at some point transfer. Texas Tech has no backup near the quality of Sorsby. If they move on, they are screwed for 2026.
    • Maybe there's something I still don't understand about the situation. Wouldn't Texas Tech do itself a favor to move on from Sorsby at this point?
    • Day 281 6-10 Full swing, fast, getting low point ahead of "towel".  Working on flow during this seems to help.
