I see that many of you who voted for Tiger's 2000 state that one reason is the depth of the field. This factor has been mentioned before and I am not sure how it was resolved. One way to measure the "quality" of the field is the number of Hall of Famers that a player had to beat. Has anyone done this with 1953 and 2000?

That's one way to do it, yes, but a poor way to do it IMO. One easy reason: not even Tiger Woods is in the Hall of Fame currently.

Let's not veer off topic here.

There are multiple threads discussing the strength of field issue.  

But then again, what the hell do I know?
