So whenever a ferrule becomes loose on my irons, I use a spare grip to wrap it around the ferrule and twist it back into place. Is there any other way of doing this which is easier and is the grip idea a generally safe bet?

Use a small dab of epoxy between the club and ferrule before sliding the ferrule back to the proper position. Then use a paper towel to wipe off any excess around the ferrule.

Thanks, is it still OK to use the grip to get the ferrule down? I read somewhere not to do that with collared ferrules but I don't know what kind I have.

Fingers work fine. Or wear a dishwashing glove or latex glove. Ferrule's are plastic and slick to grasp (especially the short stubby ones)

Rubber gloves or even the rubber jar opener work well.

You only need to twist it as you are pushing it back in place.

I've never heard of anyone suggesting using a "golf grip" in thank manner. It just doesn't seem logical to me.

If all else fails, a trusty "left handed Monkey wrench" has been known to fix almost anything.

A collared ferrule has a flange (or collar) that sticks down slightly into the hosel.  The collar is only a few millimeters.  If you can see the shaft directly below the visible part of the ferrule, it's not a collared ferrule.

I have a pieve of soft wood shaped something like a tuning fork that I place around the shaft above the ferrule and tap the ferrule down.  Sometimes they stick pretty good.  I've never had one of mine come loose, but I've fixed some friends ferrules (on OEM clubs :-)).
