What wedge-setup do you use, and why?

Have you tried some other setups, why didn't that work for you?

At the moment i just have the standard SW and PW i got with my whole iron set. I suppose it does me alright. I have never tried anything other so i cant really compare it. Im not sure how much difference it will make so i suppose thats something to look into..

my wedge set-up works just fine for me. i have the pitching wedge (47*) from my set, a cleveland gap/diadic (53*) and a cleveland lob wedge (60*). this has been my set-up for the past 10 years. from about 135 yards in i have these three clubs to work with. i can usually manufacture some kind of shot for the circumstance. if i ever get a new set of irons, the pitching wedge would be replaced by whatever comes with the set, but the clevelands are permanent fixtures in my bag.

in the bag:

I have aslo only got a PW and an SW. But the different between a SW you got with the iron set, and a "real wedge" is huge. I bought myself a new S wedge this year, and I saved many strokes around the green.

Now I'm looking to buy two or three brand new CG 12 wedges. And I hope they will help me more around the greens, so I can reach singel hcp next year.

I use the conventional 48 deg pitching wedge 52 deg gap wedge 56 deg sand wedge and 60 deg lob wedge...it has been working I think in the spring I am going to switch to a 58 deg lob wedge for the simple reason that the gap is too big between the 56 and 60 about 20 - 25 yards I would like to have it to 10 - 15 like all the other irons

Right now I have a 48* PW, 52* GW, and a 60* LW. But I am waiting to get a 54* GW/SW to evn the gaps. The reason I only have 3 wedges is because they are what I have practiced the most, so I get around just fine with only 3.

Here's what I play:

It's all in my sig, but I use the 45° PW and 50° GW from my set of King Cobras, and a 56° Cleveland CG11 SW. I carried a 60° LW for 7 or 8 years, but I dropped it after I figured out that it cost me more on misplays that it saved me when I used it correctly. I've shaved about 4 strokes off my handicap in the 2 years since I put it in the garage.

Wow. I honestly didnt think there would be much difference. I might have to take one out for a round from my local pro-shop before buying it or something. Just to get a true feel and determine whether it's worth it.

My wedges are Mizuno mp series

Pw 130 yards
52 100 yards
56 90 degrees
60 80 yards

My biggest gap is the 30 between the pw and 52 wedge,so I have to take something off the Pw by choking up on the club and or take a punch shot.

Soon after I first started playing golf I decided that I would buy a 52 degree gap wedge to go with my 56 and 60 degree wedges. At this time I was playing off a handicap of about 17 and only hitting my driver about 215 yards so I felt that a hybrid to fit between my 3 wood and 3 iron would be of more use.

I bought I hybrid and since then I have also updated my wedges to a 54 degree sand wedge and a 60 degree lob wedge.

When I buy my next set of wedges though I will probablt go back to a 52, 56 and 60 because since I got my first wedges I have lowered my handicap to 7 and I have increased my driver length by about 60 yards so I am using my 3 wood and hybrid much less frequently.

I play the Mizuno mp series wedges but I always like the Vokey Spill Mill wedges.

I have read a chipping tip from Golf Digest that help me a bit. They suggest to have two target for chipping onto the green, the first target is where you want to land the ball and the second target is where you want the ball to end up. I tried this the last time I played and noticed a better visualization of the shot I wanted to play. I use the 60, 56, 52 and sometime pw and 9 iron depending on how far away I am from the green.

I have a 54* RAC TP with 10 degrees of bounce and a 58* RAC TP with 8 degrees of bounce. I also use my i3+ PW quite a bit depending on the lie and the amount of green I have to work with.

With the set above, I am currently experimenting with more bounce in both my wedges since I moved to Illinois from Arizona. On desert courses, you tend to find yourself with tight lies more often than not. Up here, with the deeper rough around the greens and off the fairways, I'm finding that a little bounce on your wedges is a good thing. Of course, the best solution would be to hit fairways and greens more often, but that is still a work in progress.

You're talking about the reducing gap b/w 56 and 60 by replacing 60 w/ 58 deg.......Do you have any issue b/w 52 and 56 degree?

i use the 45 PW and 55 SW from my R7 set. I recently added a Mizuno MPT 58 LW to help with getting the ball to stop a little better on the green (my SW would just keep rolling.. and rolling.. ). I like my current set-up but I'm sure I will add a 50 GW in the future once I feel the need for it.

The best thing that I have done for my game has been adding another wedge into my bag (4 including PW).

130 in is where I make or break my round. So having added weapons only helps my score. I'm also not so much a feel player as I am a technical one, so having half wedges is not something that I look forward to.

This is how I use my wedges:

48° PW for full shots and bump and runs (130 yards)

52° for 118 yards (full) or 100 yards (3/4) to roll to the back of the green.

56.14 Spin Mill 105 carry 3-5 yard spin / check (money club )

60.11 MD grooves for 60 yards (one hop check) or 80 yards (full)

I really believe in working backwards from green to get me 100 yards out, and I correct club accordingly to tee off.

I'd also like to add that the MD grooves is just insane.

    • When does a 'non-conforming' club become just another piece of metal or plastic?
    • Day 353: mirror work again today. Working on the same stuff - wrist twist and shaft lean.
    • This is my second year playing golf, I started last season but have always struggled with a slice. I've tried multiple things to try and fix the slice: Closing the face. Rotating my right hand out or clockwise in the grip. Keeping the club head low in my back swing. Focusing on a straight swing path. Trying the straighter arms like Bryson D. (as seen in the videos above) Trying to not let me hips get too far ahead of my down swing. Trying to keep my shoulders down until after I've made contact with the ball. Etc. I recently changed to the straighter arms which has helped me adjust away from such a drastic slice. So it has helped a bit. Before that, I was trying to keep the club head low in the back swing and this was the most helpful in correcting the slice, however it drastically removed power and distance in the strikes and would even sometimes result in a hook. About a couple months ago I had a single lesson with my driver and learned some helpful things, but have since struggled to perform what I learned well. One of the things in the lesson was to keep my shoulder down more in the the down swing until after making contact with the ball. This would help the slice a bit, sometimes drawing the ball. To even it out, I was instructed to rotate my hips a bit earlier in the down swing. What I have noticed however with the earlier hip rotation is that it's really hurting my lower back a lot. Since backing off on that it's helped not injure my low back as much. I believe my main issue might possibly be the swing path, being a Pull Slice.   See above, was mid typing when you posted. I have never watched Moe Norman's swing to be honest. I have never measure my hip rotation, but I'd like to hear your thoughts on that after you read about my hip rotation / back pain issue.
    • Two questions… Are you trying to swing like Moe Norman? What's your hip turn like? Have you ever measured it?
    • I've been Playing Golf for: 2 years My current handicap index or average score is: 18 Index My typical ball flight is: Slice/Fade with a driver and FW. Generally straight with irons, varies some days left or right. The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: Driver slice. Videos:
