Left Wrist Angle Going Back (Right Hander)

I've struggled since I began playing four years ago with doubt about the proper orientation of the back of my left hand on the backswing.  It seems like most golfers' left hand generally lies in the inclined plane (the swing plane) during the backswing, but I have more success with the left hand generally perpendicular to the plane going back, with a 2.5 knuckle grip.  Is there anyone in this forum for whom this also works?  I suspect that this backswing is severely limiting me, somehow.

I highly doubt that the back of your left hand is perpendicular to the plane.

Plus, players have played with bowed and cupped left wrists, all successfully (or unsuccessfully), in addition to the likely more common "flat" left wrist. The club shaft or clubface would be in an entirely bizarre orientation.

If you are swinging like that you are likely very, very limited, and highly unlikely to be a 12 handicapper.

Can you take and share a picture to show what you mean?

Maybe what I feel isn't real.  Here is a better way to describe my backswing:. When the shaft is horizontal, the face is not vertical--it is closed about 30 degrees.

That's early in your backswing. Kind of irrelevant.

As @Lihu suggested, post a picture or video of your swing. As you stated, feel is not real. For club face control, what happens in your downswing is more important than your backswing.
