So I have been teaching my girlfriend to golf and she actually has a great swing, but she doesn't trust me when I say it :-P

Anyways, she hits the ball solid but everything seems to be a push to the right.  Her hips are very open at impact and there is no slice/hook on the ball.  She is using very old clubs which probably aren't a woman's flex.  I noticed my mom, who started playing a few years ago, does the same thing.  Solid contact but always always always to the right.  I can't get them to pull a shot left.

Any ideas on why this is and how to fix their rightward shots?

Without a video we'd all be guessing. If we are guessing, I would first look at her grip. Many amateurs the first time they grip a club it's done too weak.

Yeah sorry I should have stated that in the OP.  I would love to post a video but not sure she would be wild about it! :-D

I'll have to check her grip, thanks for the suggestion!

Yeah, my wife had a problem with pushing to the right.  Not so much anymore, I basically think she grew out of it.  In other words, after playing enough, her brain/body/coordination got connected enough to know how to square the club at contact.  She hits it straight or a little left, with a draw, more often than pushing it now.

Our golf instructor told her to "roll" her arms more.  As an aside, I've seen Hank Haney videos where he says the same thing.  But, I don't think that is what ultimately fixed the problem as I noted above.

    • Okay I apologize for allowing so much time elapse between my updates but I am resigned to the fact that surgery is definitely needed I have tried everything else and even paid out of pocket for a "PRP" injection I got 2 months ago and the pain is not going away in fact it's been getting worse. I'm either going in late this month or early February to get this taken care of once and for all.
    • Day 172: mirror work for a while during SNF. Working on cleaning up the early backswing stuff. Definitely seeing the improvements I’m looking for.
    • @jxdama: Same dumb schtick since joining. Yup. Also, it's a par-73.
    • Day 97 - 2025-01-05 Showed up to something that absolutely floored me, and then was busy right through to 9:00. So, I got 5:00 in at night, at home, before bed. My rib cage hurts from a cough (ha ha, but also, f***), and I think I have a mild ear infection in my right ear. Things are just f***ing great.
    • OMG Jerry Barber shot -20 back in 1960! Let's go back and time and bitch about how easy it is to play golf. My goodness, Calvin Pete shot a -21 in 1986! Wait a second, David Duval shot -26 back in 1999! Hold up, Ernie Els shot a -31 back in 2003!!!!  (all scores at The Sentry, it is a very easy golf course for PGA Tour players).  The concept that golf in the past is this protecting par or what not is just romanticized BS. Golfer's have been tearing apart golf courses for decades. Let's have a sense of perspective to base our opinions, ok?
