I've been playing with the same set of r7 irons since I started playing. Would I see any noticeable improvement picking up a set of m1s or Nike vapors.

Take a couple of your r-7's to a shop with a monitor and hit some demos to compare

I agree with this. You will find out more at a shop or demo event.

Are modern sets better than a 5 to 10 year old set?  Yes, they do have better technology but not really going to make that much of a difference to your game, unless your existing set is badly fit for you and the new set you buy is better fit.  Also, whether you are hitting the ball well enough to hit a blade, MB, GI or SGI iron can determine how much improvement you see or sometimes if you are fit badly, your game can actually get worse with newer irons.  The clubs themselves are not that critical.  Fitting is the key

I have R7 TP's, and don't plan on upgrading anytime soon.  I really don't think age is as big a factor in irons as it is in a driver or fairway woods.

The R7 is a game improvement club with a wide sole, which is what they are doing now with GI irons.  The TP's are more narrow but still are cavity-back and perimeter-weighted.  Just don't think innovation in irons has evolved as much as in the woods.

Enjoy them!
