I've looked around the site for an answer to this but have not found anything... apologies in advance if this has been answered before.

My course has a couple holes that are pretty short but the approach shot always gives really uneven lies... really hard shots for me.

I know that if the ball is below my feet its going right, above my feet and its going left (assume a right handed golfer for all of below).  Likewise, if its an uphill like its going to hook and downhill will fade.  My question is what do I do when I get a combination of these... specifically an uphill lie (going to hook) where the ball is below my feet (going to go right)... or the inverse, a downhill lie where the ball is above my feet.  Just assume that that grade for both lies is the same... its just as much up/downhill as it is above/below my feet.

Does one of these two conditions matter more?  Any help would be appreciated.

I think that, while those things are general rules of thumb, they aren't really "rules" per se.

I prefer to account for uneven lies in setup and then make the same swing - which produces the same end result, really - dynamically.

To confusing, I just decide on ball below or above the feet and play that according to that  , if slope is up or downhill I adjust my stance. I usually play the above feet/uphill more like a tee shot. Prepare for a spot in front of the ball and shallow draw swing.

The below feet/downhill is my standard approach shot with iron more upright swing slightly steeper with a divot after the ball. swing the force and not force the swing. Focus on the butt end and upper shaft and aware of the topline.

    • Can you elaborate on this?  There's a par-4 hole at the course I've played the most (was my home course for over a decade, now 50 miles away but I still go and play there) whose green is below the fairway and I realized recently it's one of three holes on the course I've never made birdie, despite that I often have a short iron into the green for my second shot.  It isn't even that I haven't made birdie, but I realize I often don't hit the green.  My typical play of the hole is to have a near-GIR and sometimes I get up and down, but not as often as I would if I were trying to 2-putt.
