Hello, hope this is a good place for now. New to the golf world.  Been going at it for about 5 weeks. Played 5 rounds so far and have done some time at the driving range.  I have taken 4 lessons so far. I  can't hit anthing but my irons. With the lessons I'm slowly picking it up. But on my last lesson we hit the driver some. I can't seem to turn my hand over enough. Mentally I know I have to do it. But it's like when I swing there's so much going on I just can't it right. I'm gonna have my wife video me next time I can drag her to the range. In the mean time is there something I can do to get myself to fix my issue. Or is it just keep hacking away at it while at the range..any tips or info would be appreciated. .thanks

You're taking lessons already - which is probably the single best thing you can do.  Just keep hacking away at it - you'll get it.

I know that feeling well - "there's too much going on".  I'd say that's completely normal.  When I'm thinking real hard about something new, something I've already learned will just "drop out".  Trust is a huge thing.  The more I improve, the more I realize I already had what I needed but it didn't "seem right".  But - the "noise level" of all the things floating around in my head that I *didn't need* also sort of drowned them out . . which is why having a good instructor is the best thing possible.

I'm not in any way affiliated with this site but they have developed a thing called The 5 Keys which is truly amazing.  I never paid for anything 5 Keys related and I consider it one of most important "revolutions" in how I think about my swing that I've ever encountered.

The reason I think it's so great is because it allows you to finally stop analyzing your shots to try and fix your swing.  Hitting it fat?  Thin? Slice? Hook? Hit great irons but bad drivers . .or the opposite?. .forget about it .  the same swing faults can cause all of those.  Instead, rate yourself honestly on The 5 Keys and go from there.  Video of your swing is extremely helpful in this.

Good luck!

Welcome to the site. I would not think about turning your hands over. The swing happens too fast for that. Post your video in the Member Swings section and folks will help.

You can't manipulate your hands during the swing because it's too fast. It's a whipping action. Since you're new, you probably have lots to learn about the things that are impacting the squaring of your driver face. But, I'll share this... The driver is long and therefore it naturally travels more around you than a shorter club. With this, you don't get as much natural releasing action (the mechanism that closes the club face) as you do with a shorter club that heads more sharply to the low point of the downswing. Therefore, you just need to be better at a number of things in the golf swing that you may not be aware of or been able to do yet. For example, getting to your left foot allows you to use the left side of your body (pull up kind of) to resist the downward force of the clubhead When it is traveling towards the bottom of the downswing. This action helps the club face to naturally close. And, you also need begin your downswing by clearing your right hip forward so your club can travel down along the plane line vs travelling outward. This also leads to a natural closing of the club face. There's more things and it takes time to learn. A quick fix is to choke up on the grip until you get better.

    • Long time user of the Flatso Ultra since it came out in 2013. Went to use it for the first round of the year and was dirty, so gave it a good cleaning and think I am going to need to replace it. I don't have anywhere around me that has the new varieties of the Flatso lines, but what would be the current closest in their line to the Original Flatso Ultra?

    • Yeah, that's… not gonna happen. Not any time soon. 😉 I talk quickly. And… a lot of podcast listeners listen on 1.5x or something. So, maybe they slow down the podcasts I'm on a little bit. 😄
    • I don't really agree with that. Nor that. The commonality among the game's best putters (not 100%, as I'm in that group 😄) is that they generally use lighter putters. The science is that they have more fine-grained control over the speed.
