Didn't Ryan Moore or some PGA player use this backswing for a bit because of a wrist injury? More than one way to get it done.

Kill slow play. Allow walking. Reduce ineffective golf instruction. Use environmentally friendly course maintenance.

I think some pro who was struggling with his swing came up with that back in the 30's?

Yes he did. It's more extreme but also kinda similar to what Kenny Perry does.

That was mostly to help players who need to hinge their wrists at faster rate on the takeaway/backswing but I guess you could also use it for players that need to turn more or feel how the pivot should "carry" the arms on the backswing.
