Hey! I'm a 14 year old girl and I'm wanting to try out for the golf team, but I'm not sure of I'm good enough. I want to know what I should be shooting at. I normally stay below 120. I just want to know what I would need to work on and what coaches are looking for

Every school is different you should talk to the coach at your high school to determine where you need to be in order to make the team.

Welcome to thesandtrap. :)

As newtogolf said, it really depends on what type of team your school has. My brother is playing for his team too (same age that you are) and scores for the team vary. There are a couple on it shooting in the low 100s, and a couple shooting low 80s. Some of the bigger schools nearby in Denver and even bigger ones in our city have kids shooting regularly at around par, so it really just depends.

Best of luck for making your team! I'd say go for trying out even if you don't think you'll "make it." It'd be a great experience and if you don't make it you'll know what you need to work on for the future. And you may make the practice squad portion of the team, even if you don't travel to tournaments. Again, though, depends on what kind of team your school has.

Good luck!

On a lot of high school teams, something in the 110s might have you as the three girl. Some schools are more competitive, and other schools will take almost anyone who tries out.

Talk to the coach and tell him you're interested. He'll be able to tell you whether you're in line for a good spot on the team, or if you might need to shave a few strokes to make the starting lineup.

I can only go on the girls' golf scores posted in the local paper where I live.  In NE Ohio, you can see match scores for girls' golf teams anywhere from low-40s to 60s or higher.

Iacas gave you a good piece of advice:  Talk to golf coach, express your interest and ask him for a tip or two on how to shave strokes from your game before tryouts.  My guess would be your short game and driving accuracy would be good areas of practice ahead of tryouts.

Good luck and keep us posted.
