I'm looking for information about Champion "Wide Zoom Body" irons by Bob Williams design.  My old boss sold me a set (4-9) and they have Champion MX200 graphite shafts (listed as S flex).   I'm curious as to how old the design is (I'm guessing they're non USGA conforming if they're as old as I think they are) as well as what graphite shaft of today might be comparable.

Thanks for any information!  I'm quite stumped as my Google-fu is weak it seems.

I am so embarrassed - I have no idea why I typed Champion...   They are "Confidence" clubs by Bob Williams.  I'll edit my OP now.

They appear to be made by Northwestern, a cheap brand that was around in the 80s, maybe into the 90s IDK. Northwestern was sold in the Kmart I worked at as a teen. I will bet that they are barely worth scrap metal prices.

I used to hit rather well I thought.  I spent 3 nights a week on a driving range hitting 150+ balls per evening.   I injured myself and didn't touch the clubs for 12 years.   I dug them out of the garage the other day as I really need to find a hobby that's not playing World of Warcraft so I can do something outside of my house besides goto work.

I'm going to attempt to get back onto a range a this fall (when it's not 90+ degrees outside) and I'll redevelop my swing.   When I was taught how to swing it was with an even tempo from back to front.  I'm not sure how fast my swing speed was.

The reason I'm asking for information is so I have some baseline of what I'm used to.  I'm likely going to just get fitted for a new set since these clubs are so old but I figured why not try to get a little information on them.

    • Is it? I bought the Stack radar to replace my PRGR based on what Stack told me! When I am swinging for speed, the PRGR would miss 50%-80% of my backswings due to a higher speed. The stack seldom misses those- at least for me.
    • As an analyst by nature, I would like to compare the scores under both systems. It is something we can easily do if we have the data. I actually thought the new system was less fair to those whose game was on the decline - like mine! Old: Best 10 of last 20 scores with the .96 multiplier. Course handicap excluded course rating and overall par. New: Best 8/20. Course handicap includes course rating -par. My understanding is Stableford caps scores at Net double bogey like stroke play. If so, handicap should be slower to rise because you are only using 8 versus 10 scores. If I am missing something, I am curious enough to  want to understand what that may be. My home course tees that I play are 72.1/154 now. My best score out here is 82. When my game started to decline, my handicap didn’t budge for 13 rounds because of good scores in my first 8! I know I am an anomaly but my handicap has increased almost 80% in the past few years (with only a few rounds this year). For a few months I knew I was losing every bet because my game was nowhere near my handicap. I suspect I have steamrolled a few nuances but that shouldn’t matter much. When I have modeled this with someone playing the same tees and course, one good round, or return to form, will immediately reduce the handicap by some amount.
