Like many things in golf, sometimes you really have to exaggerate a move, just to  even come close to doing it a little bit in the swing.Maybe that's the thinking behind this training aid.I just watched a golf show with Raymond Floyd, and he said he liked to work on exaggerating the stop and go in his golf swing, during practice. And if someone as good as Raymond Floyd works with this swing thought,I tend to believe its worth trying.Maybe you don't need this aid to practice your transition, but that doesn't mean the thing is junk. I wouldn't mind trying this training aid if the price was a little lower!

I can see this thing helping. After my first effort at mimicking the "other" speed stick device and having two balls fly off the end of the shaft, I simply took a "birdie ball", slid it over the end of a shaft with a well secured golf ball at the end. The birdie ball is very light and it also takes awhile to slide to the grip and therefore the pause is exaggerated, but the sound of it clicking at the grip end acts as a trigger. I was then able to take my normal club, take back rather slowly to the top, pause (a little), and was able to swing much harder. The birdie ball thing is also good for speed training and it won't cause the affixed golf ball to fly off the shaft. Worked for me, but not everybody. It does not work on a regular club though as it slides down over the hozel too far and/or gets stuck.

Does anybody remember the "hinge practice club"? Early 2000's I believe.  It was to teach proper clubhead positioning(open and close) throughout the swing. I got suckered into that and it helped with hand feel. However, like many of these gadgets, you could open and close early, cheating the system, and in the end find yourself with a shorter swing plane.  Lol.  I threw it away after 3 weeks. My point is this. For everything they are trying to teach, there is a method for teaching it that has been used by the better Pro teachers ever since the origins of this game. You can use technology to teach a child to read, but the fundamental steps are still the same. Doesn't make it any easier.   It just makes money for the businesses selling that stuff.

@Lagavulin62  are you referring to the Medicus training club(s) ?  In any event, this is why I often tinker around making my own (often to the point of ridicule), but at least I am not out any money if it doesn't work out, but most work out just fine for my purposes. I've made tee retainers, club stands, tethered balls, swing path indicators, attack angle devices, training clubs, fade and draw indicator rods, you name it... (just like most other folks, I would surmise).

It's just bearings in a golf club shaft and one hits golf balls with it. Make a full turn, wait for bearings to fall as lower body does its thing... swing.

Not much of a gadget. Sure you can tell yourself to wait, and then swing, but this offers consistent feedback. When I have a golf club in my hand, I don't like to wait - this has me waiting.

Yes that's it! ....... I like your ideas. ........most of this reminds me of those kitchen gadgets and special tools advertised on late night television. If we were good enough to play on the tour would we really want to attach our names to these things? I couldn't do it.

I have not seen many "current" tour players associate themselves, but several instructors and coaches and also some "old school" guys. I am sure that the ones you see on golf forums are from sponsored entities that pay for the privilege. I get a chuckle at some of Shawn Clements "tools", he takes everyday things laying around the house and puts them to good use, but hey, if it helps, why not?

Nine months later - still have the Gabe Golf Trainer in the bag - if transition is an issue, seems to help before a round. Good luck.

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
    • Day 115 12-5 Skills work tonight. Mostly just trying to be more aware of the shaft and where it's at. Hit foam golf balls.
    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
