OK here is what I am going to do...
I decided on 3 new CG12 wedges in 50* - 54* - and 58*.

I need help with the bounce selection...

50*- 10, no other choice
54* - 8, 12 or 14
58* - 8, 12 or 14

I am thinking 12 on the 54 so if I open the face it gets closer to 14
and 8 on the 58 for tight lies or compact sand on the less expensive
courses I play.

Your thoughts?

Thank you for the help.

Hey a fellow Marylander! For my swing I have: 54*-8 degrees, 58*-12 degrees This depends on your swing though. I have a more sweeping swing which benefits from less bounce because it helps me prevent "skidding" the ground with the club. Also depends on the courses you play. Firmer sand=less bounce. Hope this helped.

i would say 54 12 is more versitile than 54 14 - useful for bunker play and full shots, but handy for touch shots around the green.

58 8 is a popular combination - i have this in titleist and it's perfect for bunkers and up and over shots.

the 54-58 seems to be the most common combination on my college golf team, so you're on the right track!

I have been contemplating switching from my current wedges, 52 & 56, to 54 & 60. Is there a reason why you are seeing people putting the 58 in the bag instead? I would think you would have a better range in distances with a 60.

do people generally have even distance gap if you stay 4 deg of loft apart from your pitching wedge?
50/54/58 if you have a 46 pw
52/56/60 if you have a 48 pw

how about length-wise?
go down 1/4" every wedge?

I don't know if people noticed that wedge set pelz designed contains 49/55/60/64.
let's not get into 49 should be a gap wedge, it's to close to pw in your set, or why he even have a 64 x wedge.
I was wondering why he had a decreasing loft gaps...6/5/4 instead of "common" 4/4/4?

I would do it just the same as you are thinking with 54/12 and 58/8. I just went through the same thing with Vokeys with 54/10 and 60/4, but I traded the 60 for a 60/8 which is still great for firm lies and bunkers but forgiving enough to be played from softer fairways as well. The 12 degrees on the CG is perfect for all around conditions.

generally i see people with 3 woods and irons 3-9, with a pitching wedge in the set or a "specialist" pitching wedge. This only leaves room for 2 wedges in the bag - looking at full shot distances - i hit my PW 125, SW 105 and LW 85. I would say that the 58 is more versitile than a 60 as you can hit it further, and (depending on bounce) still open it up around the green and bunkers. Of course, if you have an extra wedge, maybe a 52/56/60 is a better combo but for me you're better off having less choice around the greens - something my pro tells me all the time. Try to play different shots with the same club.

Thanks for the help guys!

I stopped by my golf center to see the wedges in person and my instructor was in the shop. We chatted about the wedges and he said pretty much the same things...

60's are harder to hit and the 54-12 and 58-8 are the same he recommends.
He seems to favor the CG10 over the CG12. He also likes the TM RAC and of course the RAC TP look really nice.

Looking over the wedges I really like the looks of the RAC, both the TP and regular. I also like the look of the Titleist wedges, not the spin milled but the other ones like 250-08, 254-12, and the 258-08.

I am torn again! ;)

I am worse then my wife deciding what dress to buy!!!!

hooray for another marylander

i have the cg12 and it is nice but nothing special, i am actually looking to get the cg10's 52,56,60 because i keep hearing how much nicer of a wedge it is.
i haven't thought much about what bounces i am getting yet. but i think your instructor is correct about the cg10 but if you will be more comfortable over the cg12 then go with your gut. regardless of what anyone says all wedges preform basically the same the just have different feels.

I totally agree with this. Sometimes less is more.

    • Day 37: did my drill swings in the garage with foam balls for about 15 minutes. Working on getting my backswing more turned and then going from there.
    • Thanks but honestly… I don't know any other way. I don't mind being wrong so long as I know where to go from there. I don't like being wrong — I'd love to get things right (which is different than "being right"). I recommend grabbing a furniture slider or a paper plate or something, and doing something like this: First, make a swing where you let your trail foot swing out as you turn, then twist that foot back in. From DL and FO, it'll look like this: Then, during a regular backswing, try to twist your foot in slightly (demonstrated in the left image): You'll notice a crease along the trail side of your hip, your pelvis will "fold" into that thigh (internal rotation of the hip joint), and your "bits" will be squished a little between your pelvis and your thigh. Ben Hogan said once: "At the top of the back swing the groin muscle on the inside of your rt [sic] leg near your right nut will tighten," Hogan wrote. "This subtle feeling of tightness there tells you that you have made the correct move back from the ball." I don't know about that, but you will probably feel something down around that area.
    • Yep. I think it will start to feel even more athletic when we start on the downswing stuff later.  I know, it's just I want to be younger so I have more time to enjoy the changes. 🙂
    • I need to drop a couple of stone. 🙂 😛    Yep. Yeah, but in the end, it feels more athletic, like you're actually using your legs, yeah? As you know… we use the best available info we have. Like others, I was fooled a little by 2D images for awhile (moving or still). Unlike others, I've learned and grown and moved on since then, while they're still looking at their images (often from lousy camera angles).
    • Day 12 - 2025-12-31 Limited time today, and heavy rains here. 5-10 minutes of mirror work for full swing, working on trail side.
