You ask a good question. Assuming each club has the same loft, the 5 wood should go farther because the shaft is longer. However, the shorter shaft on the hybrid makes that club easier to hit for most people. Additionally, if you are more consistent with one club over another club, your percentage of well placed shots with the more well struck club will be higher than with the other club. So, a question you may need to answer is which club do you strike better and more consistently: the 5 wood or the 2H?

Another consideration in your choice of club has to do with which shaft either comes with the clubs or which one you are willing to substitute. For example, I like to play with the same make and general model in my longer clubs and likewise in my irons. When I bought my 3 wood this summer, I replaced the OEM shaft with one similar to those in my hybrids, as you can see by my signature; this provides a certain consistancy in feel with my clubs that I like. These are some thoughts I hope you find useful.

I have also this descision to make, but I'm hitting very well my 3 irons that I prefer to leave my 3 iron and add other wedge to my bag.

But I will go for the hybrid.

The 5 wood will hit the ball higher, but less accurately than a 2 hybrid.

I see you posted as a 10 handicap. For most mid handicaps I would consider when you are most likely to use the club. Off the tee, out of the rough, second shot into the green on par fours, second shot into the green on par fives. If you are long enough that you can use it as an approach club on par 5s and off the tee on short par 4s or super long par 3s then the hybrid works better for most. Out of the rough depends on personal likes. If you are a short hitter and need maximum distance and height the five wood also makes sense. Finally some of the hybrids blur the line, Bobby Jones, Nickent, etc. they are hybrids but have a lot of the characteristics of five woods.
