That's great!  Congrats.

I remember my descent to 12 HI.  It I've got down to 16 steadily like you and stayed there for a while.  Then, boom!  In very short time (2 months), I've got it down to 12.  Now it's back to 19.  I hope you have your own "boom" moment and stay there (and down even further).

Actually, I meant to ask what happened that got you from a 12 to a 19 (even 22 IIRC) handicap. Was it injury or something?

Combination of many factors: injury, lack of motivation, reduction in practice time, home course change, ...

For two months, I was doing everything right.  I was hitting my drive about 220+ on well hit shots, putts per round was about 32, and played on home course with hazards (not OBs as in current home course).   Then, while gardening one day, I tweaked my back and I haven't been the same since.   My back healed in 6 weeks but I've lost my ball striking form and have been all over the place to get the form back.  Then, I hurt my lower neck and upper back (ended in months of chiropractics treatments).  I also practiced less than before due to various personal reasons.   The best I can described is that I've lost the momentum to keep improving on my golf.

Now it is back down to 19 from 22 about 3 months ago.   I have set a modest goal of getting to 16 HI this year.   It is certainly doable if I keep myself healthy and continue with daily practice (back to practicing 60+ minutes a day).

Good job losing those strokes. It's amazing how hard it is to lose just 3 strokes. We'll be following your progress getting to 16.

Hi guys. I went to play my first 18 in a while today. It was the first round that I've played after starting to practice daily. My goal of breaking 100 was pretty close.

I feel I have a real problem with my tee shots. I'm not consistent at all. Further I had good putts. I could feel the practice coming through and also my irons felt solid.

I only practice with my irons as our driving range is just 220 yards long. Could the little practice of my driving be the cause of that being SO bad??

Yeah, you need to practice with your woods. 220 should be long enough with limited flight balls at your range, though.

BTW, your putting is pretty good!

The red target and the one green target do seem to indicate FW and GIR.

It took him 4 strokes to get to the green. Maybe skied or topped?

The red target indicates fairway hit. The down arrow indicates I was short of fairway. :)

Shot a 99 yesterday and it was all because of the driver. My average is 54% FW but even when I miss, I'm usually not so far off that im in trouble, that was definetly not the case yesterday lol. I was spraying and praying all day and leaving myself horrible second shots. Oh well, back to the range I go.

Or you could practice more on the course.

When I was spraying left and right last month, I still practiced on the course. I practiced getting out of those horrible second shot positions until I got confident that some of the time I could still make a near green or green. This in turn gave me the confidence to relax and make better drives.

You can announce a practice round, then take two approach shots from the same horrible position or even challenge yourself with harder ones when you get a halfway decent one.

I revisited my spreadsheet.  Here are my actual stats.

Before - 12 HI (March, 2013), 30.4 putts per round, 38% FIR, 208 drive average including shanks (220+ on well hit drives)

After -    19 HI (Octob, 2014), 32.9 putts per round, 62% FIR, 175 drive average including shanks (190 on well hit drives)

They are mostly played on two different home courses.  "Before," the course was wider, longer, less penalizing on ball striking misses and I never learned to be accurate.  The current course is very penalizing and I had to bring up the FIR to reduce OBs.   The ball does not roll due to soft fairway condition and I lost probably 20 yards of driving distance b/c of it.

Notice the putting stats, 30.4 total putts per round.  Then, I was practicing putting at home (kitchen floor, carpet), and at range daily.   It really tells the story.   It's time to get back to the old putting practice routine.

Start a myswing thread. Or PM @mvmac or @iacas to see about getting your swing improved. You should be able to get back to 220+.

I can use some instructions for sure.  The funny thing is, I can hit 220+ yards at range at will.  The current course makes me slow down my tempo for accuracy.     That may explain why FIR is very good but distance is down (slower swing speed, and lack of roll).    It's a mental thing.
