That is great. If you take it further, there are over 32,000 people registered and we have 10 guys in the top 10% and 14 guys in the top 25%. I think that speaks volumes to the knowledge of the people that come to this site. Granted you would expect serious golfers to know more about the Tour, but we have consistently put guys in the upper end of the open league all year. Nice work TST players.

Also, I have three "teams" and I don't use two of them. They had some bugs during registration. So of the 32,000 playing, I wonder how many are "actual" accounts and with people who didn't give up after the first week or who just recently signed up.

True. I have two teams that are both active. One in our league and one in the open division. Even if the number of teams is 20,000 that are active, our players are mostly in the upper half.

I am one of those people that fell victim to the poor set up the first week. I should have 3000 more points but didn't realize that my team was not registered to our league the first week.

Last week was tough, but I did alright.

This is another tough week. Here are my picks:

Leonard
Donald (who is leading round one at -6)
Hart (local knowledge)
Weir
Durant
Gore

Since I scored some free passes to the Honda, I will be cheering them on in person tomorrow! It is kind of cool seeing a tournament on a course that I have actually played before.

I agree. I got to go to the Ryder Cup and the US Am at Oakland Hills and the Senior Players Championship when it was at TPC Michigan. It's cool to see how the best play the same holes that kicked my ass.

Here's who I took: Boo Weekly Anthony Kim Matt Kutchar Jerry Kelly Joe Durant Jason Gore We picked a couple the same. Good luck! Have a great time out there. That's very cool. I'm totally envious. It's snowing like crazy out here, but i'm going to buy golf shoes tomorrow. I'd much rather be @ the Honda.

Here's who I took:

I almost took Kutchar, thought about Weekly, and I almost always take Kelly, but Luke kept calling out to me. If I had really been thinking I would have picked up on Jesper because he lives down the street and really knows the South Florida courses probably better than Hart who went to U of Florida. BTW, Jesper went to Palm Beach Jr. College on scholarship which is in the middle of the county and they had access to some great courses.

The course that they are playing is at PGA National and is a tough test. Those last two par 3s (15 and 17) are brutal as there is very little room to bail out. It should be a great tournament! I can't wait.

I used to go every year and I haven't been in a few. At one time I was in the Apprentice program and my brother was an Assistant so we always could score at the Doral, the Honda and the Senior Championship (back then you just showed your PGA Apprentice card). We both left the golf business but we made a lot of contacts so I made a call and bingo...

The wind was cranking today. I watched Hart rattle off the last three of his six in a row front nine 29 this afternoon. That was sweet!

Here's my lineup this week:

Steve Marino
Robert Allenby
Dudley Hart

I've gotten lucky the past couple of weeks as I was out of the country for work and my internet access was severely limited. I had a small window to get my picks in and luckily was able to make it happen.

Thanks, Putterhead. It feels good to be representing the SandTrap.

Ok, here is this weeks dilemma. Ryuji has played a lot of golf on the west coast of Florida, but Els is coming of a great tournament. I have to go with Els. Too bad Ryuji is in the same bracket he is kind of the dark horse. I will take Mallinger because the kid has game. He played in the group I watched on Friday with Hart. Durant also played strong.

Here's my picks for this week.

Stricker, Els, Appleby, Mallinger, Calc, Durant

I too looked @ Calc & Els, but most players (xcept Tiger) can't seem to string more than one good tourney together! I always pick Kelly, and he admitted to having problems, but i'm giving him another chance...

I went with: J.B. Holmes Appleby Kelly Cink Ames Kevin Sutherland Good Luck. Hope to be joining you next week in the top 100. I will be higher though.

I like the Ames pick...it is so hard to be consistent week to week and I have the same thought about Els and Calc, but I think they are both on a little streak. Els is #3 now and that is hard to ignore. Let's see if he can keep it going. If Ryuji beats him I will be kicking myself. Good luck to all the Trappers this week.

If u go to scorecard, & click on Tournament in progress, it gives u your projected points @ that point in time. I never knew that. Pretty cool, doesn't mean anything, but it's neat to know where u stand. Right now if it was over, my points would be 5,805...

Yes and if your player has 0, it is because he has missed the cut. Three of mine did just that. Go Calc!

Mine is showing 8,505, and I have one guy who missed the cut.

Just kidding of course. 5,805, that's huge!!! Looks like PutterHead might make the top 100 for the week! I'm just over 3,000 right now with a couple who missed the cut. I've got Cinc and Calc, so I need some of my others to start pulling their weight while those two keep moving on.

    • It sucks to carry around a lot of water, but ideally it should be way more than we think.  I buy those gallon jugs of water and hang them from my pushcart when I walk. I agree with the electrolytes as well. You don't just sweat out water, but you lose electrolytes as well.
    • A 2010 study from the Journal of Strength & Conditioning Research compares the effects of different pre-round stretch routines for competitive golfers. Active Dynamic Warm-up: Swing Medicus driver, hit 3 shots each with selected clubs. Passive Static Stretches: Various athletic stretches such as hamstrings, chest stretch and reverse trunk twist. The subjects were collegiate golfers with a HDCP index of 5 or less who engaged regularly in strength and fitness routines. All golfers had two test days: one with active dynamic (AD) warmup, a second with AD followed by static stretches (SS). The results were then compared, within golfers and across golfers. For performance testing after the warmups, golfers hit three driver shots at time 0, 15, 30 and 45 minutes after the warmup. The study shows that static stretch formats produced poorer performance outcomes in the four measures shown in Table 5, which shows Time Zero results. The performance deficits under the PSS protocol decreased over time. Some suggestions on why the passive protocol was tied to lower performance than the active protocol: The passive stretches routine induced excessive range of motion,  basically producing wobbles in the golf swing. Other research indicates that the stretching produced slack in the tendons, lessening the amount of muscle force that could be transferred into the shot. One caveat: The study had good scientific controls and balancing of treatments (test routines). This was, however, an exploratory study and raises as many questions as it answers. Also, although the study was done back in 2010, it is still cited as a primary work in recent reviews. A quick online search did not reveal any follow-ups on the study. For those interested, the study PDF is below. PassiveStretchGOLF.pdf
    • I have trouble with vertigo on occasion, but have gotten nutritional and biofeedback tips to keep it at bay. Dehydration can help trigger v-like symptoms so one recommendation, along with maintaining overall hydration, is to start with 8 oz. of water early in the morning. A meta-analysis on Golf As Physical Activity indicated that golf is rated as a moderately intensive physical activity. This scientific literature review came from the University of Edinburgh. The physical activity level ties into hydration. A former university colleague was a marathon runner who had published a couple of articles on endurance training. He likewise said that golf was a moderate physical activity especially when the round stretched past  the two-hour mark. For hydration he recommended switching from water to electrolyte drink on the back nine (past two hour point of exercise) to prevent cramping. At the two-hour point of moderate activity, water starts flushing electrolytes out of the body, which can lead to fatigue and cramping. (I have had trouble with leg cramps in the past during exertion.) During a round, I start out with water on the front nine and switch to sports drink on the back nine. If the day is unusually hot, I may drink 8 oz. of Pedialite concentrate before going to the course. Maintaining overall hydration plus on-course boosters keeps me going.
    • Personally I’d try booking direct first - either via the Vidanta golf reservations number/email or through the resort concierge - especially for Christmas/New Year. Vidanta’s main courses (Greg Norman and Nicklaus designs) are popular and can book out fast this time of year, so direct often gives you the best shot at your preferred tee times.
