Currently just play pw and a 54 with high bounce.  I'm driving the ball better lately and the group I play with play from the whites at my local course which I thinks puts us at about 5600.  Currently if hit well the pw carries 120-125 +/- and I'm getting 105-110 +/- with the SW.  On good drives if I am cutting a corner on a dogleg or just lucky I can be 100 yards or less.  Shorter part 4s 40 yards and up.

Pinemeadow has a 52, 56, 60, and 64 set for cheap in their pre line.

Tour edge has their tgs 52 56 60

I have the room for the 64 if I take out the 3 wood that I may hit once a round if that. I would much rather have dependable  gaps on the short side than the long lately. Have any of you played these clubs, I am on a budget as usual so I would like to stay with these under $80 sets.  My irons are investment cast carbon steel though my my current sw is forged. so I do suppose stainless wedges will feel more harsh but shoulnt be too bad getting used too.

Let me know if there are any bargains that I am missing.

@sirhacksalot maybe check out the Top Flite Tour wedges as well.  They are actually pretty nice.  There have also been really great deals on Nike wedges as well, assuming there are still any around.

Also maybe consider lightly used high end wedges.  The local Uinta shop and Superstore sometimes have good used selections, at decent prices.

I have a set of Wilson wedges. They are 50-55-60.  Not to expensive and the 50 keeps the gap to my PW closer.

If you can find them, consider a three-box of the Adams Tom Watson Classics. Formerly $99 got you 52+56+60.

As for the Tour Edge TGS, this is a mature model that has what Callaway would call a "C-grind sole." Metal is removed from heel and toe area to allow player to open or close the clubface without leading edge getting too far off the ground. Note that TGSs are moderate bounce (10* or 12*) - you said you now play high-bounce wedges.

Also, think twice about getting the 64° . It's difficult to hit, and you may not use it that often. Try a friend's 64° before you buy one. Even with a 60° make sure you pull firmly with left arm or you will leave shots short.

Focus, connect and follow through!

If you're hitting a pitch wedge 125 it's probably a modern set that tends to have about a 45 or 46 degree pitch wedge. That's a 10 degree gap to get to your sand wedge. Get yourself a a gap wedge ( 50-52), and a lob( 58-60). Check out diamond tour golf. They have components or pre builds, good quality and a lot of choices for about 40 bucks a club.

I really enjoy my Ray Cook Blue Goose 52, 56, 60 wedges. I bought each for $30 "open box" special + changed to Winn Midsized Wrap to match my other clubs...well made, great balance and control, less than $110 and my wedge game has never been better. Really getting dialed in with them.

Bought my nephew a set of the Ray Cook black satin wedges 52/56/60 for $80 for Christmas, I have only chipped with one a few times but again for the cost, they put it where you hit it.

One of the guys I play with uses the top flite tour and routinely  kicks or butts with it.

I snagged a set of new tgs wedges I was looking  at on the bay for cheap, so I am going to give those a whirl. Happy about it thinking I will like the grind and especially  after @WUTiger  suggested to not worry about getting a 64.

    • Day 11: did mirror work for a while. Worked on the same stuff.
    • I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.

    • Day 25 (5 Dec 25) - total rain day, worked on tempo and distance control.
    • Yes it's true in a large sample like a tournament a bunch of 20 handicaps shouldn't get 13 strokes more than you. One of them will have a day and win. But two on one, the 7 handicap is going to cover those 13 strokes the vast majority of the time. 20 handicaps are shit players. With super high variance and a very asymmetrical distribution of scores. Yes they shoot 85 every once in a while. But they shoot 110 way more often. A 7 handicap's equivalent is shooting 74 every once in a while but... 86 way more often?
