Let me try this again. Sorry I'm new on here!

Here it goes. So I am and have been a fairly good golfer for a while now. I have played with this swing for long enough and now is time to change. I just can't seem to make the change but it kills me to play golf anymore as I am getting a little bit older. I am also about 5'8'' 150 lbs.

I really straighten my right leg on the way back, drop my head, have a semi flat wrist (not to worried about this), and seem to hang back a little and have a pretty bad reverse C instead of a reverse K at impact (bent left leg). The result- I typically hit a 5 yard draw, almost all thin shots with every club (take a divot though), and almost every shot comes off the heel. I just want to be able to hit the ball solid again and play without major side and back pain. I would really just like a more simple, smooth golf swing that takes the pain out of the game.

Can anyone help me? or tell me what to do? I even played in college and still can't seem to get out of these bad habits, and it seems like anything I try just make it worse. I would like some help and you can say whatever you want about my swing (no hard feelings).  I still get decent power on every shot and hit the ball fairly straight it just doesn't look or sound pretty if you know what I mean. PW- 140 yards, 7 iron- 160 yards, 3 iron- 210 yards, driver- 285 yards.

I've been Playing Golf for: I have been playing golf seriously for about 12 years but total about 15.
My current handicap index or average score is: I don't get to play as much as I once did but I have been a scratch golfer for about 8 years now.
My typical ball flight is: I typically hit a push/draw of about 5 yards.
The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: I am currently and have been struggling with the thin or heel shot for about 7 years now. I have always played it and have had success with it until I started playing less. I have often lined the ball up off the toe and still hit it off the heel. I can't figure out why this is and everything I do to fix my swing flaws makes it worse.

I currently straighten my right leg to much on the backswing, drop my head during the swing a bunch, drop my right shoulder way down on the downswing, have a DJ wrist (Not as bad) on the backswing, and have a chicken wing on the follow through. I have tried to eliminate all of these things but I can't seem to get away from these bad habits.

Can anyone give advice or help?

Thanks!

@iacas I notice you have responded on a ton of videos and swings and provide excellent knowledge.

Think you could provide me with some things to work on? I know I have terrible habits.

Overall your swing is pretty darn good. Right knee also looks good on the backswing, the amount it lessens in flex isn't an issue IMO, you want it to lose some flex.

I agree the right shoulder drop is an issue because it keeps your body too closed and that's when you have to bend the left arm to compensate for how much you're lowering. It's almost like you're trying to swing out by manipulating the path with your body. I'd recommend feeling like you open the hips more on the downswing. Almost might feel like you're trying to hit fades with the body. Do drills like this.

@mvmac Thanks a bunch for the reply. I have always had a hard time with turning my hips vs. sliding my hips forward. I will definitely work on this over the next few weeks and I play in a tournament 4/17 so well see how it goes.

Im not sure if this is due to having really tight leg/hip muscles or if it was from when i was a youngin trying to keep up with the bigger, older guys 15 years ago. I used to hit everything solid until about the age of 18 and everything went down hill and to this swing.

I would honestly love to get rid of my 5 yard draw and hit a 5 yard power fade but ill work on these swing thoughts. Thanks again!

    • Imma throw a dart in the dark as no one can tell what is happening once every fourth iron shot per your OP. This might sound counterintuitive but if ball position is too far back in the stance folks are known to throw down clubhead steeply. Could be happening. And yes, @billchaois not wrong; clubhead tends to bottom out wherever your pressure is. So slide forward (not sway), then hit.
    • Day 300 (!): did a stack session.
    • Day 24: Missed my weekly round due to a last minute little league makeup game this morning. Managed to get in some backswing rehearsals while grilling sausages for dinner, and then putted around the office/laundry room after dinner.
    • but I don't understand how that's possible you still want your head to stay back you don't want the upper body coming forward and plus I've tried feeling that and it made my fat shots worse and I then tend to pull and sky all my shots especially with driver because I get in front of it dont need force plates to see i finish on my left side
