just bought an old ping 5-wood, i've bought drivers and putters from eBay in the past but this is just a collectors item/toy as much as a serious club for me.

I'd only buy a serious club on eBay if i got the exact specs that would suit me (shaft/length/lie/bounce/shaft angle/grip/SW etc...) and it would save me more than 10% on retail price from my pro (who gives me a good discount). I'm willing to pay a little bit more for after-sales problems which are easier to solve with my club pro than some guy 5000 miles away - shipping costs etc.

bluenoser sorry to hear about your trouble. Was his 100% feedback all or most from selling golf stuff? Or was it just from buying and selling other stuff and he happened to be selling a club now?

No the guy had a 100% feedback with about 60 transactions. But after I got ripped i looked through his previous dealings and they were mostly tshirts and hats. With the rare golf club thrown in. And the only other neutral comment on his feedback came from a guy who had got a golf club after I had. So it looked like a trend in hindsight. I would recommend that if you were to go with ebay go with a company that sells on ebay like rockbottomgolf or the like. I went with some unscupulus kid from the west coast just looking to offload his latest screw up.(still a little bitter)

      I'm not sure you're calculating the number of strokes you would need to give correctly. The way I figure it, a 6.9 index golfer playing from tees that are rated 70.8/126 would have a course handicap of 6. A 20-index golfer playing from tees that are rated 64/106 would have a course handicap of 11. Therefore, based on the example above, assuming this is the same golf course and these index & slope numbers are based on the different tees, you should only have to give 5 strokes (or one stroke on the five most difficult holes if match play) not 6. Regardless, I get your point...the average golfer has no understanding of how the system works and trying to explain it to people, who haven't bothered to read the documentation provided by either the USGA or the R&A, is hopeless. In any case, I think the WHS as it currently is, does the best job possible of leveling the playing field and I think most golfers (obviously, based on the back & forth on this thread, not all golfers) at least comprehend that.
