Is there anyone interested in playing a round over the next couple of weeks?  I have not played in some time and I'm itching to get out there before it gets too hot.

I am in North SD coastal but willing to drive to other areas... Courses I like to play are..... "Affordable"..haha... San Clemente Municipal, Oceanside Muni, Coronado, The Vineyards, Castle Creek in Escondido and a few others.

I can play weekends or weekdays with a few days notice and I'm ok with twilight. I used to walk but I'm out of shape and I run out of stem by the 12, kind of sad really. Most courses I play from the blues but I can play from the whites too.

I shoot mostly in the 90s but I can shoot in the high 80 if I keep it in play.

So let's get a round in...anyone?

I am usually available with a day or two notice. Just PM me or if you can get a group together, post on this forum where it can be coordinated. I play all those you mentioned with the exception of Coronado. Also Camp Pendleton and NAB North Island, MCAS Miramar.

Depending where you set it up and when, I could make the trip.  Some of those places, like San Clemente Muni, are very reachable for me.

Hi and no. I'm not so good at tech stuff. Will try to have a look. Thank you. I belong to a site in the UK called TheSocialGolfer.com, it would be great if this site did something similar. Easier to find games posted. Have a look, you will understand what I mean. I'm currently in La Mesa so anyone wanting to play, please hollar.

cheers, happy golfing

@Golf Goddess  Might I suggest Sycuan  Resort?  I have played there once recently and several times years ago when it was called Singing Hills CC.  I just thought that the location might be near you.  I have no plans in the immediate future, unless my S.O. wants to get a room at the resort so she can have her casino time

Got to keep S.W.M.B.O happy....

Thanks but out of time now. I did manage to visit Sycuan driving range. Played both courses at Cottonwood and Torrey Pines. Will save Sycuan and Steel Canyon for next visit hopefully in 6 months.

Until next time, Happy golfing

Well, just got back from week long Casino(s) visit.  I have a birthday coming up this month and I have received a free round of golf at Mt Woodson (Ramona, CA).  I have a 8 a.m. tee time (Friday July 21) as a single, but I would imagine if someone in the area would like to join me, they would accommodate them.  I have not played there in several years, it should be interesting.

OK folks is time to put something in the books and play a round. I'll start with my preference, feel free to share yours.

Days : Thursday, Friday or Saturday

Dates : 08/ 04, 05, 11 or 19th....I prefer sooner than later.

Times: Am or Twighlight ? Afternoon works best but I can do mornings with a little notice

Course :

*San Clemente Municipal, Is on the coast, usually in very good shape, is double digit handicapper friendly and a good value.  http://san-clemente.org/recreation-community/golf/book-a-tee-time/rates

*Marines corps golf course, I never played it before or don't know much about it but I have heard good things. http://www.mccscp.com/golf/

* Arrowood, a little more challenging, I never played it either but I have heard great things about it.  http://www.arrowoodgolf.com/

After round activity : A couple of beers and some food.

Please respond if you are interested and able to play. I will send PMs to the folks that expressed interest. My game is in transition and is highly volatile...so I can make most players fell comfortable with a nice 90 or a warm 100.

Looking forward to it.

I am pretty much open to any of those days. Might have to drop SWMBO off at casino, but mid mornings/twilight  fine. I have played all of those courses. Arrowood is the most professional/tournament condition.  Let's see what responses are like and then nominate a volunteer coordinator.

I'd love to join.  But I can't on 8/4 (existing plans) or 8/11 (club championship).  8/5 is a stretch but I might be able to make it.  8/19 I can easily reserve.

I prefer AM if possible.

I haven't played SC Muni since I was a 25 handicap or so.  I'd love to play it again.  I can confirm it's a great course in great condition.

I forget the rules for getting ONTO the base to play MCGC, but I was last there in September for that outing.  If I can get on to play again, I'd love to.  Great course.  I've never played Arrowwood.

I'm fine with any course!

I'd love grabbing food with the crew after the round too.

I'm comfortable with a nice 90 or warm 100, or even warmer temperatures.  I was tempted to try to organize a Palm Desert outing for this month or next but I wondered if it might not be attended by too many :-)

I believe I saw some instructions on their site regarding registering for entrance to the base. 1st timers, not a problem. Google the site and you should find answers.  This makes three people so far. We need to nail down a time and location as soon as possible. Makes it easier to commit. Those who can will, those who can't won't. The easiest to get to would be San Clemente Muni, it is adjacent to I-5.  Arrowwood is off Douglas/Vandergrift via I-76 also only a few blocks to the Marine Base (back gate). I doubt if my daughter could join as she just underwent surgery, but once we have it nailed down, I will make an inquiry.

Not sure if  @Hategolf is referring to potential scores, or the weather after reading @Shindig response.

I also think that San Clemente muni is a nice summer choice.

Lets pencil Saturday 08/19 in the morning. San C!emente does not take tee times until 7 days before, so the earliest we can secure a tee time for the 19th is the 12th. I will PM on the 10th to make sure you are still on.

    • It sucks to carry around a lot of water, but ideally it should be way more than we think.  I buy those gallon jugs of water and hang them from my pushcart when I walk. I agree with the electrolytes as well. You don't just sweat out water, but you lose electrolytes as well.
    • A 2010 study from the Journal of Strength & Conditioning Research compares the effects of different pre-round stretch routines for competitive golfers. Active Dynamic Warm-up: Swing Medicus driver, hit 3 shots each with selected clubs. Passive Static Stretches: Various athletic stretches such as hamstrings, chest stretch and reverse trunk twist. The subjects were collegiate golfers with a HDCP index of 5 or less who engaged regularly in strength and fitness routines. All golfers had two test days: one with active dynamic (AD) warmup, a second with AD followed by static stretches (SS). The results were then compared, within golfers and across golfers. For performance testing after the warmups, golfers hit three driver shots at time 0, 15, 30 and 45 minutes after the warmup. The study shows that static stretch formats produced poorer performance outcomes in the four measures shown in Table 5, which shows Time Zero results. The performance deficits under the PSS protocol decreased over time. Some suggestions on why the passive protocol was tied to lower performance than the active protocol: The passive stretches routine induced excessive range of motion,  basically producing wobbles in the golf swing. Other research indicates that the stretching produced slack in the tendons, lessening the amount of muscle force that could be transferred into the shot. One caveat: The study had good scientific controls and balancing of treatments (test routines). This was, however, an exploratory study and raises as many questions as it answers. Also, although the study was done back in 2010, it is still cited as a primary work in recent reviews. A quick online search did not reveal any follow-ups on the study. For those interested, the study PDF is below. PassiveStretchGOLF.pdf
    • I have trouble with vertigo on occasion, but have gotten nutritional and biofeedback tips to keep it at bay. Dehydration can help trigger v-like symptoms so one recommendation, along with maintaining overall hydration, is to start with 8 oz. of water early in the morning. A meta-analysis on Golf As Physical Activity indicated that golf is rated as a moderately intensive physical activity. This scientific literature review came from the University of Edinburgh. The physical activity level ties into hydration. A former university colleague was a marathon runner who had published a couple of articles on endurance training. He likewise said that golf was a moderate physical activity especially when the round stretched past  the two-hour mark. For hydration he recommended switching from water to electrolyte drink on the back nine (past two hour point of exercise) to prevent cramping. At the two-hour point of moderate activity, water starts flushing electrolytes out of the body, which can lead to fatigue and cramping. (I have had trouble with leg cramps in the past during exertion.) During a round, I start out with water on the front nine and switch to sports drink on the back nine. If the day is unusually hot, I may drink 8 oz. of Pedialite concentrate before going to the course. Maintaining overall hydration plus on-course boosters keeps me going.
    • Personally I’d try booking direct first - either via the Vidanta golf reservations number/email or through the resort concierge - especially for Christmas/New Year. Vidanta’s main courses (Greg Norman and Nicklaus designs) are popular and can book out fast this time of year, so direct often gives you the best shot at your preferred tee times.
