Hey guys I need your help. I seem to only ground ball or hit a super fat shot on the range and the course when I take a full swing. I have no idea what is happening. I've only been playing for a month but I practice a good amount. Please help guys this is so frustrating. I would love drills, tips anything.

I've been Playing Golf for: 1 month
My current handicap index or average score is: super high
My typical ball flight is:
The shot I hate or the "miss" I'm trying to reduce/eliminate is: ground balls and super fat shots

Welcome!

As a new golfer, Is start with the very basics in this thread:

Grip, posture (plus read up on the best filming angles).

Im no instructor but I do know that every portion of your swing is a result of what came before it, so you've gotta get the starting point to something that will give you your best chance.

I do know that on the downswing your club face is incredibly open at A6, club face parallel. At that point you're in trouble, I think as you'll have to do a lot of rotation to get the club square. Inconsistencies, etc.

How to fix that: don't know but others will likely be along to help. Give it time and keep posting new and better videos showing your progress. Again, welcome!

You need to upload these to YouTube and then embed the link in your thread. It is pretty easy to do. I set the privacy to unlisted.

Upload new video with driver swings on the same day.

To YouTube.

High speed video was cut off in the second video.

the DTL video has a weird angle ... the camera should be parallel to the horizon, not aiming into the ground.

In this position, I see you've rolled over on your right foot and your hands are too close to your right shoulder (swing lacks WIDTH).

Your posture looks pretty good at address. As a beginner I would focus on the fundamentals. I would start focusing on these three points:

First

I would work on your grip. It looks like your grip is what we call a weak grip. As a beginner I would go for a stronger grip. Here is a great video by Paul Azinger on the explanations of the different types of golf grips.

Second:

Also I would focus on taking the club back along your target line. It looks like the club is drifting to inside. You are then forced to lift the club into position causing your head and spine angle to change.

Place a club on the ground pointing towards your intended target. Place your golf ball about a foot in front on the club still on the intended target line. Practice hitting balls with the focus of taking the club back a long that target line.

Third thing I would focus on would be shifting your weight on the backswing to your right side but make sure that you shift your weight back to your left on the downswing. Here are some great drills to help you with proper weight shift.

Hope this helps and keep on playing!

    • I know you guys were discussing this like a year ago. But, ironically I just had this discussion with my brother-in-law. We literally just did one of these. I'd always used the "Slow-Cook, Rest, and Sear" Method. But my bother-in-law was convinced the "5-Min/lb, 500 degree" method was the way. So, we gave it a go. I have to say it came out great.  I have a 25 year old, electric oven, GE brand... Not sure if that matters, but it came out great. ... Of course we stressed that nobody was to open the oven.   I don't make these all that often so, I'm not sure if I can fully recommend one method or the other, because without doing a Pepsi Challenge, I'd say both ways come out great. 👍😁👍
