Hi All,

Long time, no post....

I am at my wits end. I started the year off with solid rounds of high 70's and low 80's. Was hitting it well, but the last 3 rounds I have played have been 100+ because I have the shanks. Bad. From driving to chipping. I have tried standing further form the ball. I have tried addressing with the ball on the toe of the club. I am too embarrassed to go to the range at this point ( although I know I need to in order to fix this ). Here is the most recent video of my swing. Not an ideal angle, but it;s all I have at the moment. I have had shanks in the past, but they usually disappear after a round, but this has been 3 rounds in a row.

I have cured them before by placing the ball in between two tees and trying not to hit the tees. Does anyone else have any other tips, or maybe a long term fix?

Cheers

Welcome back Kieran.

Could you upload the video to YouTube (you can make it unlisted) and embed it?  That may be better than each of us directly downloading the file and is the way we've generally done it in "My Swing!" threads (which you also may want to start).

Welcome back!

As @Shindig has said, we steer folks toward "Member Swing" threads when they want to post a swing and ask for feedback.

If you'd like to make this topic about general ideas about fixing shanks, we can leave it alone as a topic. But if you want specific tips and priorities for your own swing over time, then it belongs in the Member Swing area (instructions on how those work are there, and make sure you click the drop-down to reveal them):

https://thesandtrap.com/forums/forum/13-member-swings/

(EDIT: I see you've updated your swing thread. Nice. My bad for not checking)

If we retain this thread to discuss generally about shanks, the way to embed video is discussed here:

https://thesandtrap.com/how-to/embed-videos/

Hope this helps. Good luck on the fixes! Sounds like that's pretty frustrating for a 7.8 handicapper.

I've fought the same issue on & off for the past couple of years.  Biggest cause for me is usually some added tension in my swing for whatever reason.  My remedy has been to hit balls with a basket or head cover just outside the ball and just focus on not hitting the obstruction...keeps the hosel from getting out toward the ball.  I'll hit a bunch of 50-yardish pitches, and work my way up to full swings once that felling of flush contact is back.

They'll go away.  I've found myself getting over them much quicker now compared to the first couple times.  Definitely have had some panic moments in the past, and now I just laugh at myself thinking how upset I was at that point in time b/c I usually wind up playing better golf once they're gone.  Can't really help with any swing mechanics, but know exactly how you're feeling and thought I'd share.
