Hi guys, happy new 2008 year!

I would like to know if one of you have a sponsor. Because I sent a lot of e-mails to companies like Taylor Made and Callaway about this subject, but they have never answered me, except for Callaway golf, one time, they sent me a dozen of balls and a cap. I found it really nice. I'm a big big fan about Taylor Made products, and I was wondering, can they sponsor me? When Callaway golf sent me the balls, they also told me that they couldn't sponsor me because of my age, and that they can only sponsor tour pros. But my coach is a Pro golfer, and the owner of a main part of my home course. Maybie he has some contacts at taylor made companies, so he can ask somebody to come at my city, and watch me play, and maybie the are going to give me a chance...

I like to dream

Cheers, Julien

If you're at an age where they would consider not sponsoring you because of age, then there are plenty of amateur events you may want to compete in. Taking a sponsor, I believe, will cause you to forfeit your amateur status if they give you too much equipment. The USGA doesn't want the U.S. Amateur champion bankrolled by Titleist, you know?

I'm not officially sponsored, but being an employee at a golf course I am put "on staff" with a company. I represent Callaway at my club. The idea being that I push Callaway product to my members when possible. This is a practice at most clubs with all the manufacturers. We have a Taylor Made guy and our female pro is on staff with Titleist. The contract I've signed entitles me to $1000 of product a year.

I know a 16 year old young buck who "gets stuff" from Taylor Made. The idea is to play in as many junior and amateur events as possible and try and make a name for yourself. Eventually you'll get recognized and you'll get approached. And that's when the good stuff comes in.

TaylorMade doesn't sponsor people under like 18 or something, unless they have turned pro. Although in one of the past golf digest they had an article about youths and golf, and they said if companies are willing they CAN give you free gear, they just can't pay you to play their gear.

Here's what I play:

They don't officially 'sponsor' young players but some are given free equipment to represent the brand unofficially and to also secure a potential young sponsor-ee in the future, did you never wonder why a young amateur such as Oliver Fisher was using all Nike equipment before he turned pro? (btw I know him through people so know this to be true, Nike spotted him and has been supplying him free equipment)

yeah that's what I tought. Because I know a really good player, (Mathieu Rivard) and I know that last year, he played with all nike equipments. I don't think he got money for playing those clubs, but it's always nice to play with clubs that you don't need to pay...By talking about 'sponsor', I was talking about getting stuff, like gear and clubs, not about getting pay to play WITH free clubs. But I still need to make my name in amateur tour if I want to get as far as my potential can

btw, do you think K.J. 's gonna win the sony open? ( 1 hour to make your choices )

Thanks, again

I guess these make sense. I think I even read that some college teams get sponsored equipment, and they have to be amateur by NCAA rules. So I don't really know what I was thinking doubting it in the first place.

How do you get that "type of sponsorship"?
It's just that I need some new clubs and other gear, so that I can compete on the highest portuguese amateur tour, and it would be cheaper for my parents. My club pro is sponsored by Titleist, but since I live in Portugal, I doubt that it would be possible for any brand, especially titleist to send me some material...

Get your handicap down to about + 2 and win Everything about, then you might just make a good enough name for your self to warrant an unofficial sponsorship
