johnny miller today was constantly making subtle digs at jordan spieth today

I noticed how often he commented about a weak left-hand grip, and such. I wondered if he was trying to telegraph something to Spieth's coach. I thought, "Well he sure has done well by that grip; change now? I don't think so." Again probably off-topic. -Marv

i dont disagree, i just think if your job is to annoy people, how can you sleep at night?

On a pile of money.

and if he's just like that naturally, then.... he can probably sleep at night, but his job should be eliminated and replaced my knowledgeable charming people.

You've missed my point. "Knowledgeable charming people" aren't cut out for that job. It's his job to be provocative. If he's being nice and people agree all the time, it's not going to draw in viewers. People are not going to Tweet and say "do you believe what ridiculous thing Brandel just said?"

Like I've said, John C. Dvorak used to troll Mac users back in the 90s with the same type of crap. Just ignore it.

over the years it's really only miller and chamblee that are really controversially negative.  kostis likes to pick apart players swings, but he's not an asshole about it, whether or not he's right or wrong.  faldo is witty, and guys like mccord and feherety are legends as far as im concerned when it comes to making golf seem more inclusive to the average viewer.

To each his own. I can't stand McCord and I think Miller is fine. Kostis is terrible.

Either way I don't get too wound up about it. I just ignore McCord when he talks. And Kostis.

i absolutely did not miss your point. though i chose to ingore it because I don't really agree in the sense that his outrageous comments bring in viewers.  nobody watches the best golfers in the world to hear what johnny miller or anyone for that matter has to say.  it may be good for their own personal brand, as getting a million hate tweets on twitter is as good as gold for a lot of these idiots, but in my opinion, the positive effect it may have for a network, is minimal

Brandel is not commentating during rounds when "the best golfers in the world" are playing (and this topic isn't about Johnny Miller).

Follow Brandel on Twitter and look at the conversations he generates. The feedback. Topics on forums. I have no idea how you don't think it generates viewers, conversations, content, discussions… It's doing it here, right now. You're talking about him.

Golf Channel would fire him or ask him to change his schtick if that were true. TV stations are pretty good at doing what they do. Signs point to "controversy is good for TV ratings."

Want to remove the power he has? Ignore him.
