ball in the middle of huge mounds of dirt, no stroke?

Just finished a round today and I hit a bad slice into an area that had huge mounds of dirt that was dumped there by a construction truck. It isn't part of the landscape and was just mounds of dirt dumped there.

Do I get relieve without a stroke?

It is in a spot where golf shouldn't be. It use to be a part where it had a green on the next hole, but they shortened the hole so now this area is just all messed up and tore up. big huge mountains of dirt.

It may be GUR, but without markings or a note on the scorecard or in the pro shop creating a local rule deeming it GUR, your only real best bet was to play two balls under 3-3 and ask after the round.

If it was a "spot where golf shouldn't be", what were you doing there?

Have the pro pull a copy of your local rules. Normally there is some sort of statement there that gives you relief from unmarked grounds-keeping or construction. If it isn't there, it should be.
