Have you had that ONE breakthrough lesson / swingthought / piece of advice?  Would be cool if it answers were standardized enough to make this a poll in the future.  Mbe ur pre/post handicaps or something would be helpful too.

Me: Activating hips, over the course of a month I prob went from a 15 to a 9 (ofc official handicap lags, as i didn't play 20 rounds).

My very first lesson.  I was sitting on a golf club balcony absolutely shattered after low hooking the ball around an easy course for 115 strokes.  No matter how much I played I could not hit it properly.  It was time to stop playing or find a solution.  I booked a starter set of three lessons and was immediately given a proper grip, and things started to click, with a good few hours on the range.  I had a pal who started playing at the same time, he didn't get any lessons and soon gave up.  It was the turning point for me.

I was asked to assume I was at bat on a bseball diamond, wanting to hit the ball to center field. Then just swing the club head to right field. This put me on the correct club head swing path. Best advice I ever recieved.

Sounds like a similar idea to one that a friend of mine suggested, and he had lessons from Ian Poulter.  He said to point the putt line on the ball at 2 o'clock and position myself straight down the middle.  Then hit through the putt line as if your trying to send the ball 2 o'clock to the right.  It worked.

If I were to do that today I would push those putts all day! However, if I were to that before @iacas helped me with a putter fitting, it may have helped. At the end of the day, I'd rather have a putter I can aim properly than have to trick myself into hitting it online.

I must have miss read the title of this thread. I was not talking about putting, but full swings.

Never thought about it helping with putts.

It helped me to eliminate an over the top, outside to inside swing path. I hit very few slices after that tip.

I think I read your post as intended.  Using the line on the ball used for putting, but instead lining up the ball and imagining swinging through that line on your swing.  I also had a similar tip that helped me when I first started playing.

I suppose you could have a breakthrough on your putting too tho, but think most of us would have a game-changing tip on our swing.

Correct, not a putting tip.  You use the line at 2 o'clock off the tee.

    • Day 444 - 2025-12-18 Light day of hotel room work. GEARS Summit v2.0 today. Good day.
    • Day 38 (18 Dec 25) - got out in the backyard with grandson this afternoon.  We got into a little game of pitching the ball from about 25yds to a target point just off the asphalt lane behind the backyard.  Goal - just clear it with a quick hop and stop.  Focused on using the wedge swing motion I was talking with the course pro yesterday….smooth and thru just bruising the grass.  In addition to a concentrated focus on technique, it also called for a quiet mind locked in on target point.  Rehearsed this with both the 50° and 55° wedges.
    • I listened to the Shaun Webb one about the swing coach app. Sounds like a great thing and will (hopefully) be very useful for me. I do think the hosts are underestimating where AI could be in a few years. Right now it's just regurgitating stuff that it has been told or it has scrubbed from somewhere else and a human guiding things will be quite a lot more helpful than just the AI, but it's going to keep developing and it will reach the stage where it's figuring this stuff out on its own. Time will come when it will have you do a TPI style screen and take various height/arm length/leg length etc. measurements, have you tell it some history and your time constraints and goals and what not and it will watch a video of your swing face on and DTL and it will know exactly what you need to work on.
    • I found it entertaining, but the announcing was lousy.  How did the measuring on the final shot start with Rory being closer and being told he won, and then with no explanation it turns out Scottie won?  Weird.
    • Day 128 12-18 Worked on rotation and getting to lead side. Still working on the flow feeling while doing that. Recorded swings.
