I went to the local golf shop today to get my driver shaft shortened and to see if they had any used 56° sand wedges. They had a couple but this one looked to be in very good shape so I bought it for $30. I'm not sure if it's one of the newer Hogans or an old one that wasn't used much (the dirt on the face is from me hitting it). I believe the "5610" represents the loft and bounce. I don't know very much about wedges and bounce/glide so it was worth paying a little extra at a shop instead of eBay.

I've had a lot of trouble getting out of bunkers with the two wedges I've been using for the last several years -  a 50° gap and 60° lob. After buying this, I immediately went to the practice area at the shop. Getting out of the sand was much easier and controlling the distance actually seemed possible. Hopefully, that will carry over to the course.

That's really nice, I'm a huge fan of Hogan clubs. My Apex Plus irons are still superb after all these years.

Thanks.

This shop had a couple sets of Hogan Apex forged irons for sale (not sure which, Apex Edge Pro maybe?). I think they are still very popular clubs. I see them at the course now and then.

I'm a fan of the Radials because I believe they are a bit easier for a hack like me to hit. I have a beat up set that I use for practice and can get some real height on my shots with them.

The Apex Edge pros are supposed to be very good clubs. A friend is into restoring clubs and  selling them. He did a set of Apex Plus and Edge pros and wound up keeping the Edge over the Apex. You may want to give them a look.

Nice find.

I found one like that in the lost & found barrel at my club just before it was scheduled to go to the dump. It's a Ben Hogan / Apex Special SI in beryllium copper.

I haven't used it in a while but, its a nice hitting club.

In my Bag Boy XLT-15 bag:
Cobra 10.5* Speed Pro S driver
Cobra 15* Speed Pro 3W
Cobra 20* Baffler Pro
Cobra UFI 4-PW,GW,SW,LW Graphite Cobra Melbourne II putter Ball = Pinnacle: FX Long Gold Cart = ClicGear 2.0 in yellow

Thanks for the info. It's not like it was a great deal or anything, but the first wedge the salesman handed me was a used TaylorMade in poor shape for the same price. It even had lead on the face. Not sure why someone would do that to a club. Probably a bigger mystery is why the shop would think it was worth $30.

What prompted this whole search was finding a cheap old 56° wedge someone had left on the course last week. Before turning into the clubhouse, I used it to get out of a couple of bunkers and it seemed better than what i'd been using. So I thought it was time to purchase one.

Just saw an almost identical club on Ebay. Auction ended, but when he relists, it's mine. I did buy the Hogan E wedge the other day. 16 bucks shipped and it's in perfect condition. My Apex Plus set is almost complete

That is an oldie, but a goodie.  I believe those were released in 2000.  Excellent wedges.  Yes, the stampings stand for 56* loft/10* bounce.

Thanks for the info.

Whether it's this particular club or just fact that I needed a sand wedge, this has been the best $30 I've spent in a while. Has gotten me out of trouble a few times already.

Would not have guessed it was old. Must have never been used as it was in mint condition.... other than the shaft having some surface rust.

A little 0000 steel wool will take that off and make the shaft shine like new!  Just wrap it around the shaft like you're wiping it down with a towel and go over it a few times. Be careful around the shaft band.

I have some 0000 out in the workshop and will give it a try. Thanks, man.

    • I have a putting mat in my office. It's 9 feet long almost 4 feet wide. I've drawn a line down it in order to practice hitting my line and stuff. Works fine for what it is.  While I'm not a fan of lining up a line on my golfball for every putt. I think for practice sessions it can have a lot of value.  To me this product makes sense. This is the first time I've seen it. It showed up as an add on the right side of the TST webpage. What do you all think? PuttAIM Laser Training Aid Get ready to dominate the greens like never before. PuttAIM Golf is a golf putting aid that uses laser technology to help you improve your game. This device works to ensure your putts are aligned properly and on track...
    • Of course. I've used different words to start, but like 90-95% of the time it's been this one. And I'm unlikely to switch now.
    • Welcome to TST @Camjr.   We're glad you've joined.
    • Angle is not a factor. I hit the ball 100’ high. Par is net birdie. My CH is 16. The rough between the bunkers is like 10’ wide though. That’s not something you’re going to try to hit on purpose. Most of the area to the left of that is fescue/native vegetation and I’m pretty sure there isn’t a flat lie in any of it. It’s the second hole.
    • Hello all.  I'm about to be 57 yrs old, started playing when I was 16, and have quit and restarted the game more times than I can count.  I had started playing a weekly round with a friend, and finally made the jump to Senior A shafted Tour Edge clubs.  Instantly gained 10 yds with an easier swing (why didn't I make that jump sooner???).  Glad to be a part of the group. Cheers all,
