Pardon the un-imperial units!

you have a huge gap between 5-iron and 4-iron, how do you deal with this? we have similar distances up until 4-iron.

I answered this question earlier but I feel like the question is to ambiguous. Many people's response to this is how far CAN I hit my clubs and I think the answer to that with limitations is how ever far I need too. I found this interesting...

In the book Tiger Woods How I Play Golf he states, "I love links golf so much. You get to use every ounce of your creativity, sometimes on the same hole. For example, 200 yard 9-irons and 100-foot putts are not uncommon". Thats right 200 yard 9-irons

I watched tiger attack a pin 130 yards away with his pitching wedge earlier. I generally use a 56 degree wedge from that distance but my guess is because he is so much better he probably uses the bare minimum necassary to accomplish the task at hand.

There is a hole on my local course that require a 200 yard shot over trees to be in the clear for the second shot onto the green. I hit a 6-iron once over the trees with everything I had and was successful the first time I tried. Since then however, I haven't attempted it because I think I got lucky and for me, it is probably a very low percentage shot. So I think now that the distance you hit your irons isn't really a constraint limited by your athletic ability but instead a conscious choice that is chosen by every golfer. Some golfers choose to hit their pitching wedges 150 yards some don't but I believe most can if they need to.

Many of my irons/wedges seem to go much shorter than I would like, and I was wondering how far the rest of you hit yours.

All are +/- 5 yds or so.
3 Iron - 200ishyds
4 Iron - 190yds
5 Iron - 170yds
6 Iron - 150ishyds
7 Iron - 140yds
8 Iron - 120yds
9 Iron - 110yds
PW - 90-100yds
52º - 50yds

My longer irons seem to be okish on distance, but my short irons/wedges seem to come up wanting. 50 yards on a full 52º wedge?? My PW comes up way short. My 9 goes as far as a lot of people's sand wedges. Could my crappy equipment be largely to blame, or is it likely me doing something wrong?

Best link I could find to my clubs http://www.epinions.com/sprt-Golf-Go...lop_Reflex_Set

Full Swing:
60 Deg--85
58 Deg--95
52 Deg--110
PW 125
9i--135
8i--145
7i--155
6i--165
5i--180
4i--195
3i--210

Here's and OVERSIMPLIFICATION that may help. Your distance with the long irons would suggest to me that you are a natural sweeper of the ball, taking shallower swing plane and perhaps a smaller divot. Your swing tendency may not be suited for distance on the short irons, which require a more upright swing plane (much less sweep).

Or I could be totally off.

Hey Pin have you ever checked the lofts of your irons?
Those distances aren't bad......if I remember correctly every 1deg of loft equals 3 yards.

the more you play and the better you (and your ball striking) get, the more distance you'll get on the irons. It'll come with time and practice.

as for me,
PW 135
7i 170
4i 220

and so on..

I don't swing hard either, but I'm usually on the sweet spot.

Your definetly right....now that I consistently take divots I have noticed a huge difference...in distance and more importantly control.

I smile everytime I hit now...I had sooo many days of hitting fat shots it wasn't fun.
