Day 603, June 28, 2024

Played 18 holes this morning. Happy with how I played. Took my time and for the most part, just exaggerated what I was trying to do.

Erik J. Barzeski —  I knock a ball. It goes in a gopher hole. 🏌🏼‍♂️

Day 77:

Worked on priority piece with 6-iron. Did about 20 minutes of slow, half swings. Then got out Mevo+ and tried to go full speed for a bit, with mixed results.

Day 58 (29 Jun 24) a little backyard fun with the grandson as we had a little chipping challenge rules were simple: club of choice (new club every three holes); soft foam balls mandatory.  I stuck w/scoring irons (8-PW) while he went with long clubs (5h-3w-D).  It’s fun seeing him unafraid to step outside the box…good afternoon of working the basics of swing mechanics.

Day 21:  Had an hour long lesson focused on the big body moves and added moving my hips before my arms come down.

I may not hit the ball far, but at least I find all of the pretty flowers.

Day 605, June 30, 2024

Practiced for an hour after a GEARS lesson. Used the QuadMAX, exaggerated the bejeezus out of some things… Every shot was hit with a rightward path, etc.

Day 79:

Played 18 at a different local course than I usually play. Drove the ball well. Greens were soft and spongy, maybe a different type of grass than my home course and most other courses in the area, and I didn't fully adjust. Also the rough was a different type of grass, and the ball sat much more up, so I hit a bunch of shots out of the rough high on the face.

Day 59 (30 Jun 24) - - 1/2 swing Sunday w/7i…Right knee a little tender, so just did some punchy iron shots using the hard foam balls.  Focused really getting core rotation.  Hit about 20 shots total - 1/2 from flat lie, 1/2 from varied lie (above feet, below feet, taller grass, etc).

    • I was talking in terms of angle of attack.
    • I think "steep" is relative and means different things to different people. Some people look at VSP to gauge steepness, some people look at the shaft plane, others probably look at AoA.
    • The general gist of it is if you stand to a ball square with your wedge - your wedge square too, then lower your hands, the clubface will point left (if you're right-handed) and if you lift your hands, then the clubface will point to the right. Similarly, if you rotate the club open, then it points to the right and if you rotate it closed, then it will point to the left. So if you rotate it open and lower your hands, then, assuming you do it the right amount, the club face will point straight. So even though the grooves are pointing to the right, the club face itself is pointing straight. Then you have an open face, presenting plenty of bounce and you don't have to swing it left and impart a bunch of side spin, which can be unpredictable. You can swing it straight and the ball will go high and straight. I am not sure that I buy into the whole steep thing in the video. Seems that you can be plenty shallow and do this too. Morikawa probably likes the feel of getting steep even if he's not actually being steep.
    • I don't think they got this wrong. I think it's almost impossible to take a huge divot if you're using the bounce correctly. If you load up the front foot and swing steeper with the leading edge digging into the ground, you'll take a deeper divot for sure.
