RIP Carol Mann

Carol Mann, winner of 38 LPGA tournament, died on May 20 at age 77. Read her obituary in The New York Times.

In the early 1960s, Mann toured the country with Patty Berg, giving on-course clinics. I attended one on the 10th fairway of the Eastmoreland Golf Course in Portland, Oregon, in about 1961. It is a fond golf memory.

Two things came to mind when I saw this thread. 1. I believe she was one of the few women professionals to appear on the original Shell's Wonderful World of Golf series in the 1960's. 2. For a brief time (late 60's - early 70's) there used to be an LPGA event in my hometown which Carol Mann is on the list of winners.

Makes me feel pretty old. Met her in the 80s and was stunned, not only was she attractive though older but we looked at each other eye to eye and I'm 6'3". Nice lady with lots of game. R.I.P.

Yes. I heard this on the PGA telecast from Fort Worth on Sunday. Back in the day I was big Carol Mann fan! My Uncle, who was a country club pro before WWII was basically my only teacher. He told me that if I wanted to learn a good golf swing, I should watch the ladies play. The men's swing were too idiosyncratic. He told to watch Carol Mann in particular!
