So after recently deciding I want to dive head first into recreational golf (first timer,) I took to the classifieds to try and find a set of 2nd hand clubs that would get me started without dropping any significant amount of money. I'm a lefty, so I figured just finding anything locally would be a big enough challenge, but I proceeded to browse the market anyway. Found a college kid at Auburn University that was moving from his apartment back home to Tennessee and he was just looking to get rid of his gear because he gave up on playing and didn't want it taking up valuable space in the tiny Uhaul trailer he'd rented. Cutting to the chase I wound up with a set of Precise clubs, an original 9* Callaway Big Bertha driver, a Ping Scottsdale putter, a Wilson Augusta putter, and deluxe stand bag complete with rain covers for drivers and fairway metals for a whopping $40. The "set" are Precise model XT420 and include a 12* large head driver, 3, 5, & 7 fairway metals, 5, 6, 7, 8, & 9 irons, a 24* hybrid, a pitching wedge, and a counterbalance-style putter. Graphite shafts on all Precise brand sticks (except for putter, which is steel shaft.)

Now I'm not naíve enough to think that this is great equipment, but I feel like it was too good to pass up. I know they're a few years old and discontinued, but they aren't ancient and have very little use. However, I can't really find any useful information on them and I'd like for someone to be able to give me something to go on. Are these clubs worth using to develop a strong foundation with, or are they trash? I can drive with the 1 to about 215 yds (+/-) when I do my part, but haven't really hit with any others yet (just bought a few days ago.)

Carry on my wayward drive

There'll be pars when you are done

Lay your weary wedge to rest

Don't you shank no more

You only spent $40 on set of clubs that will get you down the road in your golf game. Left handed at that too.

Good initial investment.

    • I've been putting whilst looking at the hole and it's definitely helped my distance control
    • I wonder if that is why my home course basically have no stakes now.  Not even markers.  It’s completely up to golfers to remember what is OB and hazard and how things used to be marked.     Even in tournaments, there is no marking and certain areas are played differently by different golfers who either don’t know better or use it to their advantage funny reading thru this with courses that actually have markers
    • is it though?????? "Millions of fans"?????
    • Great post, thanks for the informaiton. I try to avoid adding salt to anything I eat. I tend to add pepper on to my meals as opposed to salt. And I am trying to eat as clean on possible. On golf day, I eat 3 eggs for breakfast (pepper NO salt) and a salad for lunch, with grilled chicken thigs (pepper, garlic, no salt). I have been trying to avoid processed food, but we all slip. I also should have mentioned that the electrolyte packet calls for mixing with 16 oz of water, however I mix in 32 oz of water, so I dilute the electrolyte powder.
    • So if I read the news correctly, the PIF will not fund LIV after this season.  LIV is trying to find new funding and a number of players there are now asking about getting back to the Tour.    I am very, very concerned that Taylor Gooch will not have a place where he can make a jackass out of himself soon
