Now for what's it's worth.

I have been doing some tracking of what clubs I actually hit in my bag.

And way down at the bottom of the list was my 4-iron. As a matter of fact, most of the time I have that kind of distance I hit 3-hybrid and cut it.

So I did some thinking. I asked myself this question? If there was a hybrid there would you hit it more than the 4-iron? The answer is yes.

Now my question to you folks is which one? The reason I say that is the CBX hybrid doesn't go beyond 22°. My 4i is 24°. But I need more versatility. So do I go with like a 25° Rinky or do I try to find a 24ish° Exotics?

I would like about gaps when you chose. If you can hit one with a launch monitor, you will get a better idea.

Its either the Exotics 5 hybrid or the CBX 22*.  If the club doesn't fit squarely between your 3 hybrid and your 5 iron then you probably want it a little closer to your 5 iron, right?  So go with the Exotics 5.

I have a Nike SQ Sumo 4 hybrid. That's longer than my 5-iron and shorter than my 20° but it's just too damn close in distance to the 20°. There's is like 9 yards in it. And the Nike Rinky is about 18 yards longer than the 5-iron. (I haven't really checked if I can hit it a cut with the Nike Rinky yet.)

I love my Titleist 818H1 hybrid. They are available in several lofts and adjustable 1.5 up an .75 down I think, so you should be able to get to tweak into the sweet spot.

I'm thinking of sticking to Exotics but the Titleist and Cobra ones were a definite possibility. Even if it was like an F6 or F7 Cobra.

I haven't carried a 4i since 2010.  In its place, I carry a 21* Cleveland Halo w/ steel shaft.  It tops out around 190, but I usually hit it in the 175-183 range.  It's definitely a "go-to" for me, due to the fact that I feel comfortable with it in my hands.

    • Day 468 - 2026-01-11 Loooooong day. Did some work in the patio door (as a mirror) when I got home.
    • I caught a video on this driver; the face tech seems crazy. Looking at the heat map for ball speed, hitting it basically anywhere on the face only loses a few percent ball speed. The surprising and counter intuitive part to me was that for flat faced clubs, ball speed loss is directly proportional to distance loss. For clubs with bulge and roll this is apparently not true. The surprising part of that story being that the max distance potential looks to be a tiny pee sized area for this driver, and I feel in general for drivers. The counter intuitive part being (the myth?) that blade irons have a pee sized sweet spot and missing that tiny spot causes dramatic losses. And that modern drivers, maybe 2017 on, have massive sweet spots and are ultra forgiving. Where in reality, if this heat map data is valid and reliable, it might be a bit of the opposite. This insane tech driver appears to have a pea sized "sweet spot" while Mizuno Pro 241 irons are 28% more forgiving compared to the average of all clubs measured. Not compared to other players irons, compared to all clubs from all categories, players to SGI! The Pro 241 being essentially just a solid chunk of metal with no "tech" at all. Which for me devolves into a whole mess of what is forgiveness really? And in measurable and quantifiable results how many yards, or feet, does that translate into?
