Hi

I´m going to purchase 2 new wedges and will be carrying 3 if I include my 50°PW. I think I will buy Cleveland GC12 with Zip grooves but I could use a second opinion about bounce and gap. What should I purchase for normal SW? Would it just be 54°wedge with standard bounce? I think I will choose standard bounce for both of them since the courses I play are very divers. If I buy a 60° lob wedge, will I than have to much gap in your opinion. Will the 58° work as well in flop shots and even better since I´m a high handicapper. All opinions appreciated.

I would go for something in the 55* range with more than 8* bounce and a 58 or 60 with 4* bounce. First one for sand and the second for that beautiful lob that pays for my round. (sometimes).
you may want to assess your own feel factor when you buy that lob wedge especially. Buy the one which gives you most confidence over the ball. Ideally take a few out to the rough and hit them. Hitting off the mat in the store tells you next to nothing.

i'll second that - always good to have higher bounce on one (for sand shots) and lower bounce on one (for opening the face up).

my wedge system is 47.10 (with the set), 54.14 (though i want to change it to 53.10 bounce for more versitility) and 58.08. It's a personal choice - lots of people will give you lots of opinions on what the best lofts/bounces are - if you can try out some wedges - friends or pro's or whoevers - do. Get a feel for what you want.

The best decision I ever made in regards to golf equipment is taking my 60 degree out and putting a 58 degree in its place.

Maybe it's all mental, but it sure seems a heckuva lot easier to hit than the 60 was. I used to spend half of my round fuming after I'd inevitably skull my 60 over the green and into a sand trap.

If you're faced with a severe uphill shot and need more of a "flop" club, you can always open the 58 up a bit.

yeah i find that also - 60 degree caused more shots that lost - not good for keeping the score down.

another reason for having a 58 or less lofted club - is i do not play "flop shots" - it's one of the reasons i'm a single figure handicap. there are other safer methods to play a short sided shot. by changing your technique you can change the loft of the club in your hands.

hi - I am intrigued by your post. I currently ONLY have an mizuno 64 SW with 13 degrees of bounce. I am good out of the san with it but I do seem to skull the ball on fairway shots from 80 yards in - greenside chipping is ok with but here is my question:
after reading your post I am think I would like to have a 54 and a 58 in my bag - but which one should have the higher bounce (for sand) and which one should have the lower bounce?? I am thinking vokey's but could be swayed
any thoughts you can offer would be greatly appreciated

i think that really depends on what kind of sand is usually at your course.

with soft sand, bounce is your friend with wet/hard sand, you need less bounce however, you still can open up the club face to increase the bounce or vice versa. also on titleist website, they suggest diggers to get higher bounce and sweeper to get lower bounce. the courses i play usually have wet/hard sand so i chose lower bounce

It's, of course, really up to your preference. I like a 54 with less bounce, because that's pretty frequently what I use for greenside chipping as well. It doesn't show in my profile, but I just bought a few Vokeys (54 and 58 spin mill) to eventually replace what I have in the bag (Ping Tours). I like the feel of them so far, but they are heavier than what the pings are, so I'm not going to put them in play until I've had some time to practice. I've always used the 58 degree with higher bounce for my sand shots and for shots from 60-70 yards and in. The tree-lined fairways I play tend to stay pretty moist from rainfall and shade, but the greens tend to dry out from summer sun, so I've adjusted my wedges to match.

Thanks! this helps a bit - can i plug you for more info??? first, I looked at the vokey's tonight at a shop and was just curious what bounce configurations you got?? for the 54 and the 58 I mean.

also- i looked at the cleveland wedges and couldnt believe how many there were to choose from..I mean I went cross eyed trying to tell the difference between all of them. I kinda liked the heaviness of the vokeys pruely for keeping tempo - but I am open thanks!
