Trees Impeding on or Being In the Fairway
bradsul replied to disco111's topic in Golf Courses and Architecture
I've played a few courses with similar features. It's certainly cause for a bad word or two when it happens but ultimately I'm the one who hit the ball there. Sometimes it means a hero shot hitting a low punchy cut to get on the green, sometimes it means taking your medicine and laying up into a better position. Personally I like features like that in courses if they're done well. They make a course more unique and interesting. -
Does anyone hate par-70 courses as much as I do?
bradsul replied to onthehunt526's topic in Golf Courses and Architecture
As long as the layout is interesting I can't honestly say I've given the total par value any real thought. Certainly not enough to get worked up about it. I'm more interested in the course rating most of the time. That said I could see a long string of par 4's perhaps becoming slightly tedious if there is no real variety to them, though I suppose that takes me back to my original point. -
True linkswear 2015 Line Up

That's great to hear all around! I completely wore out my Tours and Protos and my last pair of Sensei's and I was getting worried about this season. As soon as I get a better hint of spring I'm going to be ordering at least one pair of the Motion. -

Loving the look of that Motion model! Looks like it might be a good compromise between the Tours and the Protos. I wish they were going to have a Sensei style offering as well. Those were so fantastic on hot, dry days. Does anyone know if the sizing is going back to pre-2014 fit? My only pair of shoes from 2014 were the Lyt Dry and they were very tight compared to previous years. Nobody around me sells Trues and I'd hate to have to go through international shipping back and forth because they don't fit. -
I play all winter at a golf simulator that also has a couple active pool leagues and is always playing music. I don't think much of anything distracts me anymore so I voted #1. My normal group of playing partners all play there too so we don't even stop talking when people are hitting anymore. We have to be careful on the rare occasions we play with people we don't know to make sure we shut the hell up. :-D

Tarandowah Golfers Club is my go-to. It has the seal of approval of some actual Scottish golfers I know. If you play there don't let your ego dictate your tee selection. ;-)

@Shorty to use tees like this before? They're visible below the ball as well, I've not heard anyone make that complaint about them. Well aside from having to use them to begin with, but that's another issue entirely! OP I'm digging those, if you ever want a Canadian tester let me know! Though I can't do much until late March or April sadly. Any thoughts on an iron version?

I like the idea. Especially if you integrate some kind of ring or eyelet to attach a line. I use the winter-cone style tees when the ground is too hard up here. I attach it with fishing line to a hockey puck (hey, I'm Canadian, what do you expect) so I don't have to chase it down. I'd try these out for sure, I never liked looking at the cones much.

That's completely normal up here. I've never even heard of a course around here that allows non-playing riders. It's understood that you're paying a 'riders fee' rather than for a cart. It's a train ticket rather than a rental car.

I've had similar issues with mine. Combined with the smaller toe-box and the added overall stiffness I've relegated this model to the back of the closet. That crazy high heel just can't fit properly for everyone unfortunately. I'm also searching for a replacement for my Protos. The new barefoot shoe in the 2015 lineup is looking pretty awesome, can't wait to see them in person!

Gotta feel bad for the poor guy who had to climb way up to the upper right. Based on the amount of raking that was done he must have had a rough time of it!

TRUE Shoes, Barefoot, and More
bradsul replied to iacas's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
To each his own I suppose, I want less shoe not more for myself. The Proto (at least for me) were a great balance between the two. The Lyt might be leaning a little too far in the wrong direction for me, but I own them now so I'll certainly use them. I'm not sure what other options there really are at this point anyway. Got all winter to look at this point sadly. -
TRUE Shoes, Barefoot, and More

I wasn't really complaining, as I said I found them quite comfortable. Just compared to the sensei I'm usually wearing they felt as stiff as plywood. Time will tell I suppose and if they are moving away from true minimalist shoes I wouldn't be surprised for the very reason you mentioned. -

Has anyone tried the Lyt/Dry model? They had a sale on golftown daily deal a few weeks ago. I quite liked the look so I decided to buy them without having seen them in person or tried them on (none of the GT stores carry True in stock). I finally received them yesterday and headed over to the simulator to hit some balls and I have to say the soles are incredibly stiff. They don't have any heel drop but I wouldn't call them minimalist shoes by any stretch. I can't feel the ground at all under my feet. Sadly based on the weather I may not be able to try this in a real round until spring but I have my fingers crossed. They were very comfortable but I'm concerned about all that extra stiffness and support weakening my feet. As others have lamented, I miss the Tours and the Sensei were great (when the course was dry). What I'd really love is the Tour model to come back using the sole from the Proto. -
All the time, it's great fun! I play 5-6 times per week and about half are match of some sort (at least for another couple weeks, stupid Canadian winter!) Favourites are: four ball 4-2-1 match skins Mostly it depends how many players there are. Often it's just 2 or 3 so match and 4-2-1 tends to be the most used.

How to drink properly on the course? ( IE staying hydrated)
bradsul replied to Elmer's topic in Instruction and Playing Tips
I just drink water, I never have beer at the course. If it's really hot and humid (normal for southern Ontario summer) I usually bring 4 bottles with me. 1 of which is half frozen to keep the rest cold. I'll have finished them all by the end of my round. If it's not too hot I will usually go for 1 bottle per 9 and 1 bottle at the turn. -
I'm up in Guelph and if there was a course of that quality around here offering that deal I would jump all over it! We don't get great deals like they do south of the border, gotta take advantage when they do come up in my opinion.

TRUE Shoes, Barefoot, and More
bradsul replied to iacas's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
That's a great looking shoe. I will definitely check those out. Ouch on the price tag though. This is my plan, I won't need new shoes this year but I will definitely need to pick something up for next season. Complicated by the fact that Golf Town (all of my local ones anyway) have stopped carrying TRUE. I won't buy without trying on first so may have to switch brands anyway. -

Anyone know any reasonable equivalents to the Tour and Proto shoes? I kinda stopped looking once I found the original TRUE Tour model and have remained brand loyal until now. -

That is disappointing. I have both Tours and Proto's and love the super-wide toe-boxes. I have a pair of sensei as well but they are definitely narrower on my feet. I don't much care for any of their other models, I guess I will have to start looking elsewhere for shoes next season. -
FootJoy M-Project - Waterproof??
bradsul replied to colin007's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
Seems odd that we would both have the same problem with the mesh version. I'm going to Golf Town later this week, I'm definitely taking my shoes along with me! I remember when I bought them the guy at Golf Town even warning me they weren't waterproof. I wonder if they made a change to the mesh model at some point. I notice the website says they're waterproof. -

bradsul replied to colin007's topic in Balls, Carts/Bags, Apparel, Gear, Etc.
I have the type that look kind of like burlap and they are definitely not waterproof. I don't wear them unless it's late on a hot dry day and hasn't rained in a while.
