Watch Golf Channel Bloopers - Paddy does Happy Gilmore... really!
beisenhauer replied to nevets88's topic in Golf Talk
If I remember correctly, that bit was in Harrington's episode of "Playing Lessons." Along with the unfortunate dancing. -
I use a 3x5 card that I make up myself with card stock and a good guillotine-style paper cutter (see attachment). It files much more easily than full-sized scorecards.
-
The rule says nothing about whether the obstruction lies in or outside of a hazard, only that if the ball lies outside of the hazard the player may take relief.

I bought the same club (different flex) from the same seller about a month or two ago. Nothing about it gave me any reason to doubt its authenticity.

Kim/Garicia - Should be a great match, but I think Sergio's experience carries him. Besides, he's had a slow week so far; he's due. EUR: 1, USA: 0 Mahan/Casey - An early battle of captains' picks. Hunter's been really tough this week. EUR: 1, USA: 1 Leonard/Karlsson: Karlsson was hot on the back nine today, and Leonard has been a walking highlight reel this week. EUR: 1 1/2, USA 1 1/2 Mickelson/Rose: Both have played well this week, but Rose has been closing out matches where Phil has faded late. EUR: 2 1/2, USA 1 1/2 Perry/Stenson: Neither has really done anything spectacular this week. EUR: 3, USA 2 Weekley/Wilson: Boo, Crowd. Crowd, Boo. I'll leave you two to get to know each other. EUR 3, USA 3 Holmes/Hansen: Does anyone else feel like Boo has been carrying J.B.? EUR 4, USA 3 Furyk/Jimenez: Ryder Cup veterans should put on a good show. Both have played well this week. EUR 4 1/2, USA 3 1/2 Cink/McDowell: Graeme has been making clutch putts. EUR 5 1/2, USA 3 1/2 Stricker/Poulter: Another battle of captains' picks, both of whom have justified themselves very well, but I think Stricker's putter gives him the edge. EUR 5 1/2, USA 4 1/2 Curtis/Westwood: Curtis hasn't done much; maybe he's due. Wouldn't count on it. EUR 6 1/2, USA 4 1/2 Campbell/Harrington: Padraig has been off his double-major form, but I think he plays well enough for Europe to retain the cup. EUR 7, USA 5 Overall: EUR 14, USA 14; Europe retains the cup.

You could combine the two notions: both a random draw and pairing better players with worse. Divide everybody into "top half" and "bottom half" by handicap. Everyone in the top half puts a ball (identifiable) into a hat or a bag, and the players in the bottom half draw a ball at random from the hat. Whoever the ball belongs to is their partner. It's random, but you know you won't wind up with two excellent players paired or two weaker players together.

Kudos to you. Still, I can think of worse ways to go than keeling over on a golf course at a ripe old age.

Okay, I'm late to this little party, but I'm going to throw in a radical viewpoint here. Government is force. That is its nature. What the government does, it does by the use or by the credible threat of force against one's person or property. The proper role of government, and by extension the proper use of the law, follows from the morally proper use of force in a civilized society. The only proper use of force in a civilized society is in retaliation against those who initiate its use. It is proper to defend one's home against an intruder. It is proper for the government to forcibly reclaim property taken by force and return it to its rightful owner. It is proper for the government to incarcerate the thief to prevent him from stealing the property of others. In short, the only proper role of government is the protection of the individual rights (life, liberty, property) of its people, from foreign and domestic threats. An individual's choice to use drugs, harmful as it may be to themselves, their friends and family, doesn't violate anyone's rights. If, under the influence of said drugs, they take some action which does violate the rights of others, then that action, not the use of drugs, should incur whatever sanction is appropriate to the violation. The government has no more prerogative to forcibly stop someone from using marijuana (or cocaine, or heroin, or Prozac, or HGH), or to punish them after the fact, than it does to stop them from drinking a glass of water. The same goes for the manufacture, possession, transport or sale of the same. I'll be the last person to argue that mind-altering drugs are not harmful to those who use them and to their loved ones. The faculty of reason is our most basic means of survival and flourishing. A well functioning mind is what makes life not only possible, but worth the living. The abuse of drugs (and for many drugs, any use is abuse) shuts out any possibility of a long, fully rewarding, fully human, life. But for others, whether it be friends, family, neighbors, complete strangers, or the government on their behalf, to interpose force between our faculty of reason and the reality it is designed to comprehend, between our choice and our actions, has precisely the same effect. It subverts our means of survival and flourishing. Alright, fire away.

It doesn't matter which way you hit the ball when the entire course is a hazard.

Shot 85 playing by myself in 2 hours, 45 minutes. Couldn't buy a putt; missed birdie putts of 4 and 6 feet as well as a few more at 8 or 10 feet. Still dropped my handicap by almost a stroke.

Do you have a copy of the Rules of Golf in your bag?
beisenhauer replied to Dub's topic in Golf Talk
I keep a copy of the rules in my bag, but I almost never refer to it on the course. In fact, I don't think I've ever referred to it on the course. -
Why should that be illegal? The course has the right to designate "ground under repair", don't they? So why can't they designate all sand-filled divots as ground under repair? That's like saying a PGA Tour event can't play under "lift, clean and place" because it's contrary to the rules of golf.

What is your Golf Related "desktop" background?
beisenhauer replied to Harry Longshanks's topic in Golf Talk
17th where I play in my league, the only hole I've birdied more than once this year. And, yes, the bunker does look like the Bat Signal. -
What do You Think Is More Important? And Why?
beisenhauer replied to firefighter2711's topic in Golf Talk
Golf is about getting the ball in the hole. You get the ball in the hole with wedges and your putter. If I was introducing someone to the game, I'd start with putting, then chipping and pitching. These are also the least physically demanding swings. Then work back through the clubs, or towards the tee, however you want to think of it. -
How many wedges are in your bag?
beisenhauer replied to ilovesandwiches's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
46° PW 52° GW (which I'm thinking about having bent to 51° to even out the gaps) 56° SW 60° LW -
The worst I've seen was a tee shot by Henrik Stenson in this year's WGC match play event. He was hitting a fairway wood, and it looked on the replays like he actually hit the ball off the hosel. It just went low and left into the brush. He won the match anyway.

I'd like to see some "positive" chips too: birdie (or better), 1-putt, sand save, etc.

I missed the one about overtaking the person in last place, but since it's the only real trick question in the lot, I'm going to call shenannigans. The context is unspecified. I assumed it meant the person who is now in last place, since that's the only way it makes any sense.

Quick correction: the NATO website does not list Georgia as a member state.

What is the strongest/weakest part of your game?
beisenhauer replied to Rojo0416's topic in Golf Talk
Right now, lag putting seems to be the weakest part of my game. I just don't seem to be able to get the feel for long putts. A month ago I'd have said it was driving, or anything off the tee, but that's improved somewhat, mostly due to better course management than anything mechanical, I think. My strongest part is probably from about 140 yards and in. I feel pretty comfortable with an 8-iron or less in my hands. (Except, of course, for the putter; see above.) -
With my handicap, par is good score, even on a short par 4. From the tee all I want is a ball in the fairway (or even anywhere besides the water), so I'm laying up to the bunkers, probably with a six or seven iron, depending on which tee, wind, etc. A decent tee shot will probably leave me with somewhere in the neighborhood of 100-115 to the front, so I'm probably hitting a 52° or pitching wedge if I want to guard against missing short. If the tee shot misses the fairway left, then I'm looking at around 130 or a little more to the front. Depending on the lie, I'm prone to hitting fliers from the rough, so I'm probably looking at 8 or 9 iron, again depending on conditions and where I want to miss.

39. Only the second time I've ever broken 40 for nine holes. Six pars, three bogeys. Hit five of seven fairways and six greens, but only had one good look at birdie. My lag putting was pretty bad, but I was holing almost everything from 6-8 feet.

What is the widest lake you would dare attempt to hit over?
beisenhauer replied to HytrewQasdfg's topic in Golf Talk
There's one hole where I play that has a 235-yard carry from the blue tees across a lake and a bunker. I don't generally try to carry it, but instead take the longer route around the lake instead of across. So my answer is probably around 210-220. -
I've used an overlap grip since I started playing golf way back in junior high. This year I fooled around with an interlocking grip, and it felt so natural, despite being different than what I've always done, that I immediately switched to it, cold turkey, so to speak. I think it gives me a better grip on the club with less tension in my hands and wrists than I was getting with the overlap.

Charlotte: Those girls bother me. Classic. Succinct, understated, and spot on. And for my money she's better looking than Ashle(y/igh), but I've always liked athletic brunettes.
