It's "usually" not there? OP, I almost always take a pretty good divot with my irons because I have a somewhat step swing. If you're getting a massive divot then you're probably coming in way too steep. Try practicing at the range by swinging your club more like a baseball bat for a few swings then step up to the ball and swing (you may want to line up with the ball closer to the toe of the club as well). This should cause you to be more flat and have an inside-out swing path.

I know ignorance is not an excuse, but I really didn't know that lynching had a racial meaning until all of this. I always associated the term with Lynch Mobs going after criminals and stringing them up (and my guess is most of the bad guys were white). If Faldo used the phrase, "gang up on him" couldn't that also be racist - clearly he was only talking about black gangs, not hispanic, italian, chinese, russian, etc. Personally, I think it's ashame that some people look for reasons to be offended. I honestly doubt that Kelly meant anything racist by her statement, especially as directed towards Tiger. She has always put him up on a pedestal (as many of us do) and I doubt she really cares what color, or ethnicity, Tiger is. Just my $.02.

My first thought was that he wants to be able to skip the Pro Am so he can be with his family. Phil's pretty strong-willed and I wouldn't be surprised if he does skip this weeks event. It's not like he needs the $$$.

Madriver, that was a brilliant reply...no wait....it was really lame!

What is the length of your putter?
You're Away replied to Cleveland Gunmetal's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I'm 5'10" and use a 33" putter. Something just felt right when I tried it against 34-35" putters of the same type. Chris -
That's why I never add up my score until I'm done. I usually have a pretty good idea when I'm scoring well but it's easier to play one-shot-at-a-time when I don't add the pressure of trying to keep a good score going. Of course my buddies up north knew this and always added up the scores and made sure to tell me at the turn Chris

It'll be fun to see how he plays the next couple of events. It seems he kicks it up a notch following a poor (relatively) showing at a major. I do think that once the new-ness of having a baby around wears off a little he'll be more focused. He usually spends a couples weeks across the pond to prepare, and relax, before the Open but he didn't do that this year so he could stay at home. I think most players still fear him somewhat...remember, his bad years would be a career year for most of them. Chris

Unless you're left handed a stiffer shaft will likely make you go even more right. And to the OP, welcome to golf! Chris

Not yet, but our lawyers learn quickly and I'm sure they'll follow the UK's lead. I've played a few courses that have signs posted that you are responsible for damage your ball causes to homes on the course, but I'm not sure how that would hold up. They claim your personal homeowners insurance would cover you if you damage someones home. I've never heard of someone paying though as most assume that if you buy a home on a course you do so understanding that golfers have little control over their ball. Chris

Surprising how some of the big players (not just your picks) are doing. Of course we all know things can change in a hurry and the cream usually rises to the top come Sunday. Chris

What's in the bag of tour players...
You're Away replied to RyanR's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
The Golf Channel has an area with this information for players that have won on tour, you can search archives as well. http://www.thegolfchannel.com/core.a...000&dv;=6394122 Chris edit: Looks like QQ beat me by a couple seconds. -

No tipping! I don't tip for the guys to load my bag onto a cart in the morning since I'd do it myself if they let me. And I hate when they want to take my bag off to wipe down my irons for a tip since I keep my clubs clean as I play and wash them after almost every round. They only exception is the beverage cart girl Chris

Looking at Game Improvement Irons
You're Away replied to savingbogey's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I think that technology has improved graphite shafts a lot in recent years. In the past they were generally for older players and women, but I don't think that applies any more. Personally, I still like the steel shafts (I just recently went graphite in all my woods though) but if my game can benefit from using a better graphite shaft in my irons I'd switch. Chris -
I also went with no, but top 10. Consistancy almost always wins the majors and Sergio is very streaky. I'd guess he'll shoot low-mid 70's Fri and Sat then and then around 67-68 on Sunday. If he can follow-up with another great round tomorrow then all bets are off. Chris

Where Can I get Little Tees Like This One?
You're Away replied to iacas's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
I agree with Erik on the Zero Friction Tees, they do last (not forever but usually for many rounds). If someone locates these little tees please post here rather than just send some to Erik...I too use broken tees for par 3's and would like to have some short tees to use instead. Chris -
I'm playing the TP Blacks which I like, but I don't love yet. They spin a lot, probably too much, but I'm not sure I like the feel of them. Bass Pro Shops had them for $34/doz though and I had to give them a shot. I'm a little surprised how many high handicappers use the most expensive balls (including my playing partners). Chris

Looking at Game Improvement Irons
You're Away replied to savingbogey's topic in Clubs, Grips, Shafts, Fitting
All the clubs you mentioned would be good to try out. Only you can decide what you really like though...good example: My neighbor plays a set of TM R7 irons and his game has improved dramatically and he loves the irons. I've tried his at the range as well as some at at golf shop range and I don't like them at all. But, I've heard nothing but good things about them from others, so it's probably me. But don't buy something because others like them or you could get something that doesn't work for you and you'll have no confidence in them. Good luck, Chris -
Odyssey 2-ball center shaft, 33" length...perfectly balanced. 90% of my missed putts are due to my read. Chris
-
I prefer walking but, as mentioned above, not many of the courses around me allow it. I guess that's one of the prices I must pay to play year-round. Chris
-
You've got problems....welcome to the club As far as grip goes, I use an interlocking grip and did hold the grip in my upper fingers but have been working on getting "less hand" on the club. Watch most pro's and it looks like they barely hold the club with their right hand (righties). I'm more comfortable with the new grip with my irons but it's messed up my driving.

Which really makes you wonder...what kinda stuff could Tiger do if he didn't play the odds? I'd love to follow him around the course watching him play a casual round where he was hitting shots even he didn't know if he could pull off (like the rest of us do on the weekends ). When he hits a 220 yard shot that hooks 30 yards around some trees and rolls up on the green you know he's hit that shot 1000's of times.

One difference between a delofted 8 iron verses a standard 7 is shaft length. In theory the 7 would still be longer even if the lofts are the same, but the 8 might be more accurate due to the shorter shaft. I would guess the pros play less loft for a few reasons: They hit the ball hard enough to get it in the air, They have better control (as mentioned above), It might alter a competitors club selection, especially on par 3's, It sounds cool on TV to hit a 8 iron 200 yards from the rough! Chris

One quick tip I learned a while back was to take your normal stance then drop your right foot back 6-8", which creates more of an in-to-out path and assuming you don't change the club position you should hit a draw. This isn't a replacement for a proper swing but it helps if you're needing to draw around a tree or something. Off topic, but I've noticed a few pros do this and it seems strange to me. The only reason I can come up with is that they are compensating for the downward flex of the club at impact. Obviously it works for them but I'd hit hosel shots all day...assuming I even hit the ball . Chris
